So I took my new (to me) 06 on Imogene pass here in CO. While this trail isnt the hardest one around, I thought it would be a decent one to do to get a feel for the capabilities of the stock truck.

It did great....I started from the Telluride side and never had to go to 4x4 Low on the way up. The DAC did great on the downhill side and only scraped the back bumper once.

I will say I was very surprised at the attitude of the jeepers towards me and the rig. Just about every one of them looked at me like I was impeding on their turf.
Comments included:
"nice CAR"
"you're going to scratch it"
"it gets more difficult on the downhill side"

Seems like I offended them by taking a LEXUS on the trail since the only vehicle that should be allowed are jeeps .

Didnt get any real action shots but here are a couple.

we saw you yesterday parked on Imogene as we came down with our Colorado Toyota club. You would have been welcome with us. We think we saw you about 100 foot away looking at stuff, seemed like a family of 4

The GX470 is perfect for Telluride/Ouray/Silverton trails, even in stock or near-stock form. We had Pearl out there in July and received a TON of comments and looks...particularly when SHE (ie: Heather) arrived at the bottom of Black Bear...unsure if the shock was greater on her driving that trail, or the vehicle itself.

33's are nice for Pougkeepsie...and our ASFIR skids were touched a couple times (due to line choices) on Black Bear and on Imogene.

When do the lift/wheels/tires/skids arrive? Roof rack is next on our list, and hopefully by then someone will have some sliders available that she likes :)

I think I spoke to one of you after we got done at the top. It was waaay too crowded up there, like a traffic jam.

Well, the first (and only) thing I did so far is put new tires on a set of T4R limited wheels. I just liked the looks of these better than the stockers. Put the new Coopers on then too, I was pleased with how they did off road and really quiet on the highway.

My plans are an ARB up front and maybe a spacer up there to level it out. Trick the rear and see what materializes as far as sliders. Thats going to be a tough sell as my wife likes the running boards. Since I just put the new tires on, bigger ones are going to have to wait for a bit.

when we came down you were parked right about where I drew the circle and out of the vehicle with your family studying something.

Nice rig, daughterofromer was eying one and I road in Dan Kunz and wheeled with him in Moab. Very capable vehicle

I had a built Lexus for 7 years in my club before my 100 series. You would be than welcome to hang with us on the front range or bookcliff cruisers on the western slope

You are right, I don't remember that much traffic any of the other times I have run this trail

Yep, that was us.

I'll have to look into the bookcliff cruisers since I live out here in the GJ area.

Just do what I do. Look confused and ask where the nearest Starbucks or Outlet Mall is and that your GPS kept saying to go that way.

I did that as I climbed a 4 foot rock ledge next to a rolled over built Jeep on Poison Spider in Moab. They all had a laugh.

Priceless DanKunz!!! Nothing better than walking around with a Starbucks cup on he trail. Superduty, we had the same experience when we took ours around the Chalk Creek area. I really wish I had a dash cam to catch some of the reactions...

The guys behind me and I had a laugh. I asked if they wanted some of my wine and cheese.

ello DanKunz, a few years ago I went on I believe it was this forum and you were just starting your build and a guy named Bonner I think was doing his and after reading what you guys had to say about the gx470 I decided to give it a shot and I picked up a 2006 about a 1 1/2 years ago and never had any regrets. Still can,t find sliders for my rig so I haven,t given it the real test yet. If you have and advice on upgrades I,m more than willing to listen because I know you have been at this for awhile and as far as I,m concerned nothing beats experience. Several years ago I was in Telluride in the later part of September and found the fall colors are unbelievable . Drove Blackbear and that had to be my favorite because it dropped you right by Briddle dale falls into Telluride.

Looking forward to getting my GX out to Colorado hopefully this coming summer of 17'. So far all I've done is a rack and 265/70/17 General Grabber red letters. Hopefully sliders in the very near future to get rid of my running boards.

I did a "moderate" trail in Moab last year and had some really friendly foreigners who had rented lifted Rubicon's swarm my truck like I had flown it in there. They couldn't believe what it could do. I followed them out, and after every obstacle that was gnarly, they'd be waiting for me to see me go up/down it and take pictures. It was pretty cool.

If you "offended" the jeepers, you are doing your job correctly.

Ill be picking up my (new to me) 2006 gx470 in the next few days, and was hoping to find a nice easy trail to test it out and show the GF its fun to go offroading. If you know any good trails for a stocker gx near the denver area. Also any clubs in the area?

Nice, I'm in Denver. You got one picked out yet? Most of the good ones are under snow right now. Switzerland Trail, Rollins Pass East, Rollins Pass West, Argentine Pass. I did Switzerland Trail a couple of weeks ago. The views on the other 3 are incredible in the summer.
