The cracks on the radiator will usually happen as you're approaching the 100k mile marker. That's when mine went.
If/when you do replace your radiator get an ALL aluminum radiator, not OEM.
Mine cracked at 128k, so not far behind. Unfortunately, I didn’t know enough to have the CSF option on my radar.

Hey there, I'm new here. First time GX owner.

Welcome, GX looks awesome. KO2s and MetalTech bumpers? Gooooood stuff

Yessir!

Next year, I think I'll probably replace the wheels with something slightly wider and will probably look at falkens. I wanna see how the KO2s go this year, though.

Welcome to the forum and your new (to you) GX.
Looks like you have a good start going! Looking good!

100k, you say. Dang, I guess my car is due for some birthday gifts. I'm eyeing another new battery, a radiator, maybe shocks... All areas where there's room for improvement over OEM. What a great vehicle though, with 100k trouble free miles as of today. Here's to 100 more.

Finally breakin' it in, eh? Eh? (Elbows annoyingly)

I'm at like 99,500 and have been considering a preemptive CSF radiator. I need to see what other preemptive stuff might be worth doing while the radiator is out.

Hoses, trans and power steering fluid. Adding a trans cooler in addition to the CSF could also be a tack-on project. It would also be easier to preemptively replace the alternator and do the "big 3" charging upgrade while the radiator is out.

Hoses on the 460 are lifetime.

I would change the water pump and fan clutch as preventive maintenance.

My thermostat went out last summer and the OE radiator and accompaniments all looked in pretty good shape when replacing that. It just seems worth doing preemptively instead of waiting for it to crack open on the road...most likely occurring on my 3000+ mile round trip to Colorado I'm planning this summer.

I've done all of mine, though they did look fairly good when I removed them. They are certainly cheap enough as a "while you are in there" thing (as they need to be removed anyway), although I wouldn't go out of my way to replace them.

I'm only at 60K with my 19 Lux and don't do much more than 10K-12K a year but already have a plan for 90K, no more then 100K miles or 10 years. Because it is so cold here in the winter the CSF radiator isn't in the cards for me. The Hayden cooler with TStat with OEM radiator is perfect and I will stay with that. Bad news is the OEM radiator only lasts ~100K. Good news is the OEM radiator lasts ~100K. Next year will start picking up parts when on sale and of course do regular maintenance in the meantime.

Was 17° F this morning when I took the dogs out but warming up nicely now. 2 weekends ago was blizzard conditions and was going to wait until it got above zero to blow snow. But my neighbor took pity on me and cleared out behind the GX in case I needed to go somewhere. Warmed my heart to look out and see this

Earlier looked out to see a snowplow sitting at the top of the driveway. Had chains on the rear wheels but he was spinning in place

Turns out he was trying to pull another plow that had slid off the road and was stuck in the ditch on the side of the road. Some on here like to go some place to play in the snow. In real life living in it snow is just a pain the ass. For the 6 weeks outside of the piss poor sledding anyhow. Had to have a commercial heavy tow truck come lift him out, it took them 5 hours to get it back on the road. Wasn't going to walk up to to see how they were doing, I just stayed the hell out of the way.

Just getting out of my driveway in the winter can often be an adventure and then there is driving on the roads around here. Then there is some of the other people on the road who make it interesting, especially playing who's lane is it when you can't see the road.

Anyhow unless one of my stock investments takes off to the moon and I end up with a LX700h OT+ and even if it does will keep the 460. And at the ~90K mark:

Other things to be aware of and do first:
Valley plate check with bore scope
Check for timing cover gasket leak
Check for cam tower leak

Then replace:
Water pump
Radiator, hoses & clamps
Replace tranny cooler and hoses & clamps
TStat
Serpentine Belt
Spark plugs and wires
idler pulley
pulley tensioner
Alternator (Lux is higher rated than standard)
EGR Valve
Fan clutch
power steering flush
and brake fluid flush
Suspension, maybe…

I have asked Lexus to do them twice and both times they said they were still good, and they feel brand new. Its actually kind of re-assuring when they do recommend things. Like better do that, or else.. 🤣

I am also doing over 30k a year right now, so they will probably need to be done when I have to do my valley plate again in about 150k or so.

Redoing the 3rd gen hilux grill.mount. it will be much better. This is a picture before re-install

They should'a called Matt's Offroad Recovery for that ditched truck! 😁

Why won't the CSF work in MN, are you worried that the engine will have a hard time reaching the operating temperature in the winter?

Yes engine oil and ATF temp mainly, you can have too much of a good thing. Remember in the 60's and 70's all the vehicles with cardboard in front of the radiator? I don't want to be that guy LOL.

Can only monitor down to just above zero otherwise the display on the phone I use freezes up on me. At 14° after idling and warming up, about as high as it is going to go without getting underway.

After driving through town to the store, turning off and back on and another 15 minutes in stop and go traffic. And coming up a good sized hill to the house.

54209559286_ef87faaa85_b.jpg

That is about the lowest I care to go and when it is actually cold I'm sure it is a good bit lower. I run the ATF warmer bypass unpinned in the winter and the Hayden has a Tstat as well. OEM radiator with Hayden tranny cooler is about perfect, for me. If I lived further South I would absolutely consider the CSF.

This is why god invented cardboard. Just stick it in between the AC and the radiator when its below 0 F. I always did that with my cold blooded Yotas in Iowa.

I have to do things like turn the heat on full blast if I dont want it to warm up within a few miles even in the winter , to be honest.

I got it to go 20 miles without opening the thermostat descending that Terry Anticline when it was about 20 degrees out or so.

But I had all 3 zones on full heat
