Didn’t some guy hit a million miles in a 1UR Tundra? I think Toyota rewarded him with a new truck.

Ahh-heck, that ol' girl is just getting on 'er legs! She's hardly broke-in.
She 'ot be good for at least double that!!

I hate to say it but my 2010 GX 460 has been a total disaster. I bought it with 135,000 miles and it was well maintained with records from a Lexus dealership.

At 140,000 miles I changed spark plugs as part of my maintenance overhaul on it and found the valve cover gasket leaking. That was a big repair in the neighborhood of $1,000.

Now I have a knock at 145,000 miles. My lifters are bad despite good oil change record and good maintenance. That’s a $3,700 repair. I’m not happy at all. My 2010 4Runner with 125,000 miles was flawless. I’m regretting this purchase at the moment. Maybe I’m an outlier but what in the literal heck???

I've had a few GX's over the years (leased) and regretted returning the last one. Today I purchased a used 2010 GX460 in flawless condition...it only had 54k miles, no accidents, oil changes every 2500 miles, the leather wasn't broken in on the seats...and it's 11 years old! Based on these mileage numbers here....the body would go before the engine/drivetrain lol. I could get another decade or two out of her :).

There’s always an exception. For every outlier there’s thousands or tens of thousands of good ones.

Example. My last Ford product was a 2013 Focus, my fourth Focus. My other three were pretty good with the SVT being the only one with an issue (the horrendous Getrag 6spd trans).

At ~1,500 miles the Sync unit needed replacing under warranty. That’s a dash out job I believe.

At ~3,500 miles my entire brake system, and I literally mean everything, needed replacement under warranty. Well everything but the brake pedal itself. Also there was an unidentified rattle coming from the rear drivers side door panel. They could not find out what it was.

At ~5,000 miles the Sync unit needed replacing again.

At ~7500 miles guess what. SYNC!!! Also the brakes were abnormally wearing and would be something that would cause a problem again. Also a kind of buzzing sound from the glove box area and they couldn’t find out what was causing it.

At ~13,000 miles it needed what? Take a guess. Sync. I traded it in on a wonderful 2014 Dodge Charger and took a $5k loss to dump it. Drivers seat foam also was prematurely wearing.

Anecdotal as it is...it is what it is.

My 100 series were both nearing 300k when I sold them. I think we pat ourselves on the back a little too much for owning really reliable makes, but forget that no car is perfect. Even the 100 series, as "reliable" as they were, had many fatal flaws. Heater tees would ruin the engine (about the only thing that would), early 4sp tranny failures were rare-ish, but not uncommon, and would stop you in your tracks and set you back about 4 grand. Brake master cylinder failures were common, and dangerous, and would leave you stranded. Ignition cylinders broke and keys would spin, leaving you stranded. The early steering rack design sucked balls, and needed poly bushings to avoid wandering over all 6 lanes of the freeway. I DO think the 2UZ-FE was the best engine Toyota has made, though. I'm sure I'm forgetting many of the other weak spots. We want to say that these rigs will "go forever", but that's not really true of any rig, even ours.

I really like my 2uz. Almost to half a million!

Yes, Toyota/Lexus products are NOT absolutely bullet proof and there are some bad ones out there, whom I feel very bad for their owners.
But if one takes the ratio of high mileage/low problem Jeeps, Chevy's, Fords, etc. compared to the ones that actually go a quarter million miles without issues, I am willing to wager it would be the inverse of Toyota/Lexus products.
Example if 93% of the U.S. vehicles have problems and are only good for about 100,000 miles and 7% make it to the 250,000+, my (highly un-scientific) guess would be the inverse of 93% of Toyota/Lexus will go the 250,000+ miles with little to no issues and maybe 7% will be lemons.

I know you’re absolutely correct. Thank God I have a warranty on it although I’m fighting the company for the repair.

I’m sure I’m the outlier based on my many years of Toyota ownership and research into the GX. I’m just bummed that I dumped a perfect reliable 4R believing I was getting a fully reliable GX only to have some major issues. Hopefully this will be the end of my problems. Even if I get another 100,000 miles out of it that’s probably all I’ll put on it in my lifetime. I have another vehicle so it won’t rack the miles up at all.

I’m also going to have them replace the water pump while they’re in there regardless of it’s condition. Might as well since they’ll have everything open. I’ll let you guys know how it looks at 145,000 miles.

Sure, but have you had any of the other major listed issues that were not engine related per se?

Just wear and tear so far. Lots of worn out parts to replace.

Just my opinion

If/when to occur:

Timing cover weep/seep I am not gonna sweat... start leaving oil on the garage floor.. ok... I'll address that

Coolant valley leak... sure may happen but frankly will likely tackle job myself over a few weekends. 460 is spare vehicle for me. I realize it may be a primary for some.

I can't say I've seen either be catastrophic failure for those who maintain their vehicles at home. There is plenty of time to repair as long as you check your oil and monitor your coolant recovery tank.

What do I sweat? Need to change my brake fluid... it's due.. every other fluid has been completely replaced in vehicle. Normally wouldn't sweat brake fluid as much but that electro/hydraulic master cylinder is not cheap and they can fail.
