If one wants to replace damaged factory skids keep an eye on Marketplace, Craigslist, etc...

I gave away years back... my stock ones that were in perfect condition
I should keep an out out for those. Until I get the stuff I want, I’ll take pull offs from others.

I can not say enough good things about my rci fuel tank skid. It was not too bad to install and it takes hits very well. It was part of my armor that I rolled the 18" boulder under me going up bowling ball alley on Wheeler Lake.

34" tires and no lift so I hit every rock on the way up and down. Every 15 second it was "ouch ^$^@^"

My arb skids got beat to hell but my RCI skid is solid.

They are also local to me. Gotta support your local fabricator.

We made it most of the way to Bill Moore Lake. I really pushed the truck hard and it did not disappoint.

Even had a really solid hit on my skids as I drifted into a rock. I went full send up a snow bank that was a 90 degree corner and just used the slope to drift it over, worked like a charm but I nailed a small boulder so hard I smashed it into the ground and cleared it for the rest of my group. 😂

Pleasantly surprised by the G003s in snow. I normally snow wheel with Hakkipilettas, so not quite as sure footed, but airing down to 11 psi helps. It rides so much better with more grip.

My atrac engagement is even more aggressive now with the yellow stuff pads.

10/10 highly recommend, except for the odd times the hydraulic booster kicks in when driving in the street.

Made a semi-annual pilgrimage to Slee for a picture.

Well done!

Are you guys reinforcing the bumper skin with anything after you do the cut? Doing the cut obviously means I have to remove those black plastic inserts that seem to offer some kind of stabilization on the left and right side. Seems solid enough without them but clearly they exist for a reason. I'm not opposed to fabbing some brackets or whatever if need be.

No. Those black plastic pieces that fill in under the bumper behind the fenders are some kind of aero thing but I never saw any kind of fluttering/flapping issue with the cut bumper and those pieces removed

For now I have zipties, I have purchases plastic to make smaller panels to also keep debris from gojng up into the body, as well.as help.constrain the bumper form being ripped back by the wind.

Could you elaborate on what you are zip tying to what? I'm still not convinced there is a need but I like to arm myself with options.

Related: I'm a slow learner. Guess how many times I had to burn myself on flaming plastic to understand that cutting a bumper makes the cut hot as Satan's a******? Answer: 3.

There is most definitely a need. Mine partially ripped off in a head wind.

I ran zipties between thr mount holes on the body and the bumper cover and it has not ripped off since.

Yea, molten plastic is fun.

Talk to me like I'm seven. You ran the zips to what on the bumper skin? Did you drill holes through the skin? Are you mainly focused on the back of the bumper where air would "collect" during forward motion or are you also securing the sides?

The holes are pre existing where the wheel well.liner was. Both of mine have been destroyed wheeling. There are mounts on the body and the bumper for those annoying push tabs and screws. Use those.

I can take a picture tonight or tomorrow.

It keeps the sode pieces in position. If they flare out it becomes an airbrake and will rip off and pivot. Just puck my top pieces held the cover on or It would have been gone.

Nothing fancy.

I do have some abs I plan to.put in there, but have been focused on higher priority projects.

Oh so yours is detached from the wheel liner? Ok. Mine is still attached to the liner / top of the mudflaps. Thanks for the picture.
Mine were ripped out while wheeling.
