2600# is a very light load for a GX...unless the trailer is excessively tongue heavy you might not need any helpers. Conventional bags are rather inexpensive (<$125) and have done thtrick for me towing up to a 5,800# compact tractor with my GX.
Total tow weight will push 4k, plus what is loaded on the roof and cargo area for a 1.5 week trip for 3. We basically pack as though we are camping, but stay in a lake house. This is our first boat and first meaningful weight I’ve towed, so being cautious. I am already looking at the CSF aluminum radiator, too. Possibly overkill, but it’s 400+ miles one way.

I would plan on getting that done before 120k. Thats when my radiator s*** the bed.

I’m a long way from there.
The oem, CSF and mishimoto tend to go on backorder. I ended up having to use a parts store radiator for a year due to life intervening. It failed 4 days before moving from Iowa to Colorado and I was taking the dogs ib the GX.

Luckily i have a helmet...😂

I just think being lifted, on 33s, with a loaded roof rack and now pulling an extra few K it just makes sense to look at options.

100% and you might be better served by dedicated transmission coolers now and a radiator upgrade later.

Or investing in drain and fills on the transmission fluid to help reduce wear and tear from the towing.

Already on a drain and fill regimen at 30k, diffs and transfer case at 15k, brake fluid at 30k as well and 5k oil, haha. I had heavily modified Audis before moving the Toyota and Lexus, so I just live in fear of a breakdown.

Nothing wrong with that. Especially in the brake fluid. It saves your lines and your calipers. Has to be dry to get that peak braking performance.

If you wanted to you could always send in samples when you do changes and get feedback on your intervals. We do that for the generators at work, but I am too cheap to do it on my truck. I just change it when it looks or smells like it.

With towing 4K you would really consider weight distribution AND airbags AND sway control, as you may have in excess of 500# tongue + cargo weight on the rear axle. With rear bags/HD bump stops only and that much tongue weight, you'll be effectively removing load from your front/steering axle which can induce understeer. I have towed that much without WDH (airbags only) and it certainly can be done (and will feel decent unless you need to make a quick turn), but recently went back to using a WDH for our camper and find the rig is more stable (to the point of almost forgetting the camper is back there). For towing rental trailers (like with my tractor), it's hard to set them up with WDH so I run airbags only.

FYI my current setup is below - Firestone bags at 20 psi, basic chain style WDH, and sway bar (not hooked up in this photo). The camper weighs about 4,000# loaded and has a unloaded tongue weight of about 530#. We've towed it at least 10,000 miles including all the way to Montana and back from MO. We just pulled it to the Gulf coast and back and it was a very low-stress towing experience.

Been curious about some B.S. ......Do any of you know any 460's with a body lift?

I see the good results on the Landcruisers, and it might be a nice solution for some plastic-to-ground clearance, plus tire clearance.

So long as can manipulate the bumper supports it seems it would work nicely on a GX.

I assume it would be same as a 4Runner....

Artic Trucks AT37 comes with about a 3/4" body lift.

Is the goal just to gain tire clearance?
Clearance to plastics so not to cut them. I really don’t wanna. I’d do prado sides and sliders however.

Little tire clearance is a bonus.

Plus keeping all that stockish uptravel would be nice.

Skid plates would just get beat more.

I had a 1/2” one on the old FJ. Made suspension work very convenient too.

The problem with that is that there is enough room up top. You dont have room front to back, so you dont really gain anything unless you're running a 35 or larger.

I have considered one, but without an LCA pivot relocation it wouldnt really buy me anything.

I’m not getting new tires anytime soon and they fit (on pavement) stock so that’s good enough for now. But a body lift can’t hurt if I can make room to keep the bumpers attached.

On the LC some clearance the fan shroud if at all. For some reason the steering still works.

Just have not seen a good 460 case study.

I made my own body lift for my 100 series LC so I could fit 35's on it. It's not hard but you'll need a floor jack or two and a buddy or two to help putting nuts on the end of the bolts as you're on your back holding the bolt up.

Look at the arctic truck AT35 and AT37
Arctic Trucks AT35|37

as a mechanical engineer i would call this yhe use case for a body lift, being going from 35s to 37s.

Arctic Trucks began life as a division of Toyota and has engineered the vehicles that drove to the poles.

A body lift will cause fitment issues if you ever add aftermarket parts that bolt to the frame (like bumpers and sliders), as they will no longer line up with the factory body lines. It also may result in some funky gaps around the rear OEM tow hitch and the exhaust, which are all frame mounted.

If you want to retain as much downtravel as possible while lifted, I'd suggest a set of threaded front extended travel shocks (so you can set ride height wherever you want it) and relatively low lift rear springs. A 1" lift should be easy to achieve without harming downtravel much at all, and you'd get the benefit of better shocks and springs than OEM.

I've got a Sherline LM 1000 to keep me in check. How you pack/balance your trailer really makes a difference. I try not to leave the local area without hooking up my Anderson chains. Having your tow vehicle level while under load is a great feeling.

Anybody looking for a set of Ironman FCP shocks and matching rear springs? Had them on my GX for a few years and ~10k miles. Still in totally usable condition, no leaks or anything just some surface rust. Happy to ship but heavy as you can imagine.
