A number of articles from 8-10 years ago that the TX would be the replacement when the GX was to be dropped in 2016

Example one from 2013

Just my opinion but with nearly 10M more or less vehicles produced every year the 4R sales aren’t statistically that much.

Would that many people abandon the brand if they couldn’t buy a vehicle named 4Runner? I would think sales would easily be backfilled with “Land Cruiser” somewhere in the name. Or we simply get more options with another model between 4R and GX

It seems like the TNGA platform has now made even more things the same at the box spring level… of course different mattresses.

I’m waiting to hear the comments over time about everything really being the same because they are built on TNGA. :-)

You might be right on that… it might have been 2016 and not 2018 for the last year on both, but I do remember they were supposed to be discontinued and that 2014 refresh was supposed to be the ”swan song” to carry them for just a few more years.

I heard they are reunifying the Tacoma and hilux too… not sure which platform (n or an) is getting the axe. Maybe something similar might happen to the 4runner and fortuner as well.

In Houston it's overwhelmingly young soccer mom types or the freshly retired upper middle class Karen's of the world. Occasionally I see an older gentleman driving one but he's likely just taking it to gas it up for his wife lol, jk.
That's no joke! This middle aged gentleman only seems to get to drive my wife's GX when the needle is near empty.

Still sellling like gang-busters!
Hope that's a clue to keep up and improve the GX platform. (and NOT like the way the Pathfinder went... unibody...)

I doubt the GX goes the way of a uni-body crossover, that's what the new Lexus TX is for which is basically going to be a Lexus branded Grand Highlander.

Between the TX and the 3 row RX, it seems like they plan on keeping the GX in its niche. I still wonder if they're going to lean a little harder into the capability/off-road stuff since its so popular right now.

It definitely caught them off guard… both GX and 4runner were supposed to be killed off few years back. How things have changed. I heard the new J180 is going to be revealed this summer. Still not sure if we’re getting a Toyota version this go around or if it’s Lexus only as usual. Supposedly the new “NA” Land Cruiser was internally revealed in Canada and it was described as bigger than a prado… more like the size of the J300.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before but I was at one of my local Lexus dealers yesterday and asked about the 2024 GX. Salesman says it will look nothing like the current model and is going for a more boxy look similar to the modern day Defender. Will still be BOF and have a TTV6 under the hood.

No telling but they have ARB recovery gear and compressor options on the 2023 GX build sheet so that might be telling of them moving towards a true GXOR package with the next gen truck.

So far, the rumor is this: boxy, triple locked, with an SR Tundra tuned VA35.

I'm debating on getting rid of my 21 Sequoia for a 23 GX. I love the size and power of the Sequoia and really have no issues with keeping it for a long time, but I also love the idea that the GX and LC Prado are basically the same. It adds a little more legendary status to the vehicle than the Sequoia just being a North American vehicle (really just US).

Triple locked?? That would be a very nice punch item on the options list!

:rofl:   FIFY. I mean, I wish, but never gonna happen.
They won't offer any more diff locks than the current GX just because ATRAC and everything else gets close enough for a stock GX's intended use cases without the risks from using lockers at the wrong time/place. I'd love to be wrong though.
