We drilled and tapped 2 extra holes, I think... I guess we will just have to look at it tomorrow...ill be there at noon

if thats all that it was then we might be ok. There are 3 studs that need to be installed, all right next to each other. The middle stud is stripped so need to drill out a little larger and tap for a bolt, for the other 2 we are going to try to drill out and tap without removing the diff.

good to know the size Steve, the trick is going to be if we have a 8x1.25 MM tap, if not we'll have to find another size and make do.

If that fails we gotta tear it down completely. :bang:

Hmmmm. I hate to seem negative here, but can you drill and tap the diff safely without getting filings into the chunk? Guess we should just quit talking about it and wait til tomorrow. Good luck with it guys. Hope it goes smoothly one way or another.

I'm just throwing this out there but, I would prob just tear it back down and do it right. By the time you sit there and fight with trying to drill and tap with everything in the way you're probably going to end up spending the same amount of time and 10x the headache and cursing.

this is what we were debating but kind of concluded that it's not tooooooooo much different than guys that throw magnets in the bottom of the axle housing to collect "naturally" occurring shavings.

True, they'd likely be very tiny and not very harmful; I'm just surprised y'all are thinking that way. That sounds like something I'd think, but not you guys.

Yes, Ted is awesome! His junk is together so he can break it on the first trail and wrench the first night :flip:

Ever find your virgin for the off road gods? :grinpimp:

Yes -we know but thanks for reminding everyone.

No I did not find a virgin, did you have someone in mind? the gods will get angry if we fail them and only 4 days to departure.

I purposely took my truck to the dealer to get looked over instead of doing a shakedown run. Not tempting fate.

I ended up having them knock out the cheap easies: adjust ebrake, adjust and cleaned all brakes, rotate tires, oil. I already have new coolant and PS fluid. Next is tranny and brake fluid post GSMTR and I have my baseline updated for miles (PO had receipts for everything from Lexus when I got it).

Exactly. I had two years where I shook down and broke. Glad I didn't do it this year.

Maybe the pink panties are rubbing off from the Lexus :P

I'm really glad I did a quick shakedown. I identified a major brake problem. Not that you'd have to worry about that on the Lexus.

Yes i know Steve thus the sacrificial virgin requirement. I've not done the good omen dance around the rig to rid off the bad voodoo but that will happen Wed. night. Now, since you're headed to GMP as i type and will be sitting the rain all day, Up yours! :flipoff2:

As for the dealer looking over my truck, Hah, yeah right. I can just see their reaction now.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Mine stays at the dealer all the time. In fact, it pretty much lives in the shop... :bounce:

I drive it every day so I would note any of that. I am basically in gear (camping, recovery, etc) and PM mode with it until the next build phase kicks in.

East bound suckas!!!

Jealous! Counting down the days...

Well I'm counting down minutes now! :)

Look on the bright side: at least, hopefully, everything won't be so wet by the time y'all get here.
