Group order for Aux Gas/Water tank?

I might be interested in a group buy when they come out with their 200 series tank, which they indicated would be around mid to end of December.

Can someone update the thread so we can know the status of the buy.

Just wait a couple of months and you'll be seeing new aux tank offerings from companies like Out of Town 4wd (The Long Ranger) and Long Range Automotive both Australian companies. They'll likely have something in the ~44 Gallon capacity. Their past tanks have been well designed to use most of the nooks and crannies and optimize the empty space under there.

Who wants to wait!??!?!?!

Well my brother in law is a welder so I was talking to him and mentioned about he replacement tank I want to get.

He said the easiest thing would be to purchase the one for the previous model and then we can easily change it to fit my truck.

That sounded great...until I just realized something......The gas tank is on the OPPOSITE side (passenger now) then the previous models (drivers side).

I wonder if that is TOO much of a difference to fix up.....
You're going to get a much better set-up if you wait for these guys to come out with their aux tank than if you modified an existing tank. And I think this group buy is dead. Check with the original poster.

That is what I was asking...was this buy dead or not...that is why I said:

I am not going to fabricate my own tank, that is why I was asking about this buy.

Guys,

I'm still interested but want to expore cheaper shipping options. Last time I talked to Long Ranger the guy had mentioned about USD 1350 approx as the cost of the TR62 and about USD 1050 as shipping cost via the air. I've just sent them an email for exploring other shipping options as this seems very expensive to me. Does anyone else have any experience in importing from Australia? Are there any other freight shipping options we could explore?

Also lets take a count on who are all still interested - post up. I'll volunteer to front end this but will need help to explore shipping options.

I've also asked the Long Ranger folks for the cost of the TR52 (gas only) tank and including that in the group order - awaiting a reply from them.

Rohitash -

Make sure you don't run it like the factory sub-tank setup (i.e. pump integral to sending unit, separate fuel system that feeds directly to the fuel rail). This would be illegal in CA, since your second tank system has now bypassed the EGR system which is only running on the stock fuel system. You'll have to do a transfer setup instead.

Also, the dual fill tubes on the Aussie setups are not sized for unleaded nozzles, so you may have to be careful at smog time.

Sorry if I'm repeating all of this...

Talk to Kevin Speicher (Mangler)....he brought in the last group buy of these tanks a couple years ago with the assistance of Seth...?? can't think of his last name right now....PV Cruisers....he brings containers over from OZ and coming by boat made the transport much less ugly.

Folks,

Just heard back from Long Ranger:

"The TR52 185L tank is $880.00 AUD. The TR62 combo tank is $1470.00 AUD. Freight is a bit of a problem. Sea is most probably the cheapest option. The last tank I sent over cost $485.00 AUD and that was only to the nearest terminal, it then had to be freighted to the customer which was organised at his end. You may like to make some enquiries from your end. Carton size would be 1250mm x 520mm x 840mm and weighs approx 60kg. "

Does anyone have experience in shipping stuff over from Aussie? I'm thinking mayb we can get the group buy shipped to Oakland/Stockton ports and then pick them up?

Will try and connect with Kevin to see how they got the last lot.

Derek - thanks for the suggestions. Have'nt thought out the install in detail yet but that's kind of the direction I was thinking of taking.

Maybe we can do a group install party!

I'd be willing to help, or donate garage space, though unfortunately my tank now belongs to Jay!

Since Kevin is now involved in his own commercial enterprise:

www.bajaoverland.com

...perhaps THEY could work something out for those customers who are interested.

Couldn't hurt to ask him.

Funny you should mention that, i was JUST yesterday looking into this and emailing back and forth with the folks @ LR

The combo tank is almost double the price of the fuel only tank and the lead time is almost NINE WEEKS for the combo tank.

Another large group buy is not out of the question!

But pickup in So Cal would need to be buyers responsibility! With my current schedule, i simply dont have the time or resources to ship anything truck freight right now. I could arrange delivery within a 100 mile radius or so, but that is as best as i can do, sorry! :(

The tanks would need to be prepaid.

We did this once already and it would out great and we got 9 tanks total.

Seth @ PV Cruiser did most of the logistics, i have an email into him now asking if he is interested in doing another.

Is there still interest?

Thanks

Have you seen Boston Mangler's Long Ranger tank write-up on his 80? His came aux tank only and he needed to source the rest of the system.

There was an option to buy it as a kit with a dual filler, button, wiring, etc... but LR only offered NEW parts and the pricing was INSANELY high! :D

And I would think with the current exchange rate it has only gotten worse!

For the record, Paul May from (EQUIPT Expedition Outfitters - Home) has the Front Runner 45 gallon transfer tank on his 100 series featured in the new edition of Overland Journal. Now that is a bunch of gas!

Paul is a personal friend and great guy. Give him a call, he is importing these from Africa now and I'm sure would be willing to work on a group purchase. Shipping should be less of a problem as he loads containers full of Eezi Awns as well. Paul does not frequent Mud very often so a call will be best. I'll see hem tomorrow night if you guys would like me to hit him about it. He'll be :beer:ing. ;)

At gas pump station:
Original + Secondary Tank = 42 Gallons x $3.80 (California) = $160 :eek::eek:

Cmon now, with my 80

Stock Tank: 25 Gallons
Aux Tank: 44 Gallons

Total 69 Gallong

69 x $3.75 = $258.75 :D
