Guys,

Are we planning to do a group buy for this tank?

What's the red bag in your rear coil spring? air bag?

Yep, AirLift airbag. I was installing their Load Controller automated system, which was why I had the cross-member down (mounting the air compressor up there).

I had those on my 80 and they worked great when heavily loaded!

Holy Smokes! Now that's a canister! Looks more like a small suitcase. Doesn't look like the tank I have would work there. I'll pass on the photos. Thanks for posting.

I had the same air bags in my set up when running 863s. Worked really well. I just went up to the 864s and the bags wouldn't come out of the old coils. Don't think I need them anymore anyway.

Cheers,

Regarding the dual gas nozzle setup, for those who live in California, be sure to use a self closing nozzle for preventing gas vapor.

All that little thing does it prevent you from putting diesel into the rig.

It doesnt not hold back any vapors! How could it, the sides around the flapper are wide open! :D

YES, the restrictor IS required in CA, but i honestly cant see what purpose it REALLY serves as far as smog.

I was thinking of raising my spare on my '03 - but since mine has the canister the spare raising can't be done?

I was able to raise my spare about 0.75" with the big charcoal cannister back there. That is about it, leaves maybe a couple millimeters of gap, so that the crossmember isn't actually touching the cannister (a good thing). Any little bit helps...

Also, I much prefer the flapper type dual fill neck. I think those are from the 105 and/or late 80 Series. I've seen them in the 100 and they fit perfectly. I'd much rather pull a knob to select the tank, plus it looks better for a smog visual inspection, and if needed you can weld one of the unleaded restrictors in the neck to pass smog. Can't really do that with the other type.

Derek, with such little clearance, should you be concerned about the crossmember hitting the canister when the frame/body flexes?

Hey Les,

Who cares if the body flexes enough to do anything to it! Good thought though. It may be valid. (I doubt the flex in the frame at the rear with the cross supports would allow any real flex or concern to the canster). My thoughts only!
HOSER, use you superb search skills and prove me wrong as usual!
I take my hat off in advance to this man. He is a MASTER> I even recognise him in my sig line.
Hit em up HOSER!

Haha, well even without searching, I can tell you a small hole in the charcoal canister will result in the check engine light going off and hence a smog check failure. Vapor canister MSRP $342 (had to search that one) ;)

IMHO, I don't think the body can flex on the frame that much (especially in the rear) to make a difference. Certainly not with the speed and dynamic impact necessary to cause damage. Also, there is nothing sticking out to poke a hole, just the flat, broad surface of the crossmember, with lots of surface area to spread load over. So, a good point, but I'm not concerned, especially as I will never be doing Rubicon with this truck. But maybe I'll stick a rubber strip back there between the crossmember and the cannister next time I have the spare out. Also, only a small portion of the cannister is actually above the crossmember, most of it is free and clear.

...But I'll let you know if I crack it, so you can say "Told you so!"... ;)

Okay, cool. You said a couple millimeters of clearance so I was thinking maybe it could rub through over time. Thanks for posting the pics of the canister, I had never seen it before.
