Have a technician (ham) license (KD5FGA).
I always think about upgrading but never find the time to cram for the test.

@PabloCruise is a general, I think.

Have a spare TM-D700A that I might mod (it’s one wire), and install in the 74.

I’m considering putting the Toyota CB40F in it as well. it’s not a great CB, but it is Toyota! (Fujitsu, actually).

Yes, General license.
I have been using an old Yaesu FT-60.
The funny thing is I got my Tech license so I could get into APRS, but I have not gotten it working yet!

All 3 choices have their ups and downs.

CB is the easiest not needing a license. The range is limited and radios can be expensive. Limited channels
GMRS is somewhat easy being that you don't need to take a test for the license. You just pay uncle sam 70/35 bucks for a family license. Limited channels but handhelds can be cheap and range is pretty good for trails.
HAM is maybe a pain for some, being that you need to take a test and pay for a license. Radios can be cheap to astronomical. Range on Handhelds is good for trails and a ton of frequencies area available.

I dont have my HAM license yet. It seems fun to have as a hobby and my local friends use HAM to communicate. I got a free CB radio from a friend and I already bought an HT for the Pig Party. I guess I can pick up a GMRS handheld and pay a one time fee and can have all three.
