You're absolutely right that not all issues will translate over to 100 series--they would probably be closer to the 150- and 200-series. I'd edit my previous posts to reflect this but how do you edit previous posts? I still think that some or most of my discussion is highly relevant since it's concerning GROM and the vline product but I will definitely hold more discretion as to how it might relate to the 100-series so as to not confuse other readers.

Ok thats cool-

How to edit:

if you are posting from a smart phone there is a small shaded set of horizontal bars next to your handle and the date in the lower left corner of your post- select that and a drop down will appear and you can edit from there. If you are editing from a laptop or pc its more clear its in the lower left corner of your post as Edit Delete Report

(If I remember correctly there is also a post count before the "edit" option becomes available.)

Not really a "fix" for the startup "boot loops", more of a workaround... I've found if I turn the key to on and pause for a few seconds before starting the vehicle, I've experienced near zero "boot loops" on startup. Again not really a fix, but it is a workaround for now.

I have not gone nearly 2 full weeks without any issues with the unit. I still have not been able to update the firmware via USB. I must be doing something wrong with the ignition turn off and turn on from the instructions.

Car play has been working great! My kids are roll their eyes every time a new podcast starts. There does seem to be somewhat of a delay when you press buttons or touch the maps screen, but honestly I am thinking that is a patience thing on my end. Also, I have noticed that when shifting into reverse, it does not always go back into the VLine, it will go to whatever MFD screen I was in before.

If they keep working on this thing, and continue to update, it may end up being worth the retail price!

Put the Grom firmware file on the root directory of a USB thumb drive.
Rename the Grom firmware file to "gromvl1.hex"
start car and boot up the vline system
Insert the USB thumb drive into vline USB port 2
A prompt asking if you want to upgrade the firmware should pop up on the screen
screen will blank
wait 15-20 sec
power down for 15-20 sec

I have tried and tried to get it to work that way, even contacting GROM about it, and still no joy on getting it to work.

Are you able to update via connected to a Wifi signal from the house or hotspot?

Is it possible that you are trying to update with the same version that is on the box?

I know that they had me upgrade to a pre-release version 8 and later downgrade to version 7 before I upgraded to another pre-release version 8. I assume that this was so the system sensed a different version and would present a "firmware up/downgrade" dialog box.

I was able to do the WiFi update without issue, then I had an issue with the unit not wanting to boot up without me disconnecting the cable and reconnecting. GROM suggested I do the USB firmware update. Thats when the back and forth began with trying to get it to work. I sent them pictures of the version screens before the attempt and then after the attempt. They always stayed the same. I stopped worrying about it when it began working consistently over the past 2 weeks. At this point I am nervous to keep messing with it since its working now without issue.

New v8 firmware posted at GROM Firmware
and
New OTA update to 1.2.0.0

So far, the two of them seem to improve some of the stability issues that I've been experiencing.

^@JLB thanks for the update

Has any one found a way to download songs on Spotify using the v line?

Example on my cellphone under the shuffle button, there's a download slider that allows the songs on that Playlist to be saved on your phone.

Would be great if I could save them to the Vline, so I don't need my phone always connected via Bluetooth.

Just ranting now but I hope a hands free feature is released soon.

I can't help here. I tried the builtin Spotify app just long enough to get the "You need a premium account" popup to do the same things I was doing with a "free" account on my phone.

I took the time over the weekend to install the microphone and re-route the GPS cable.

With the unit in the glove box, I took the path of least resistance and removed the A pillar cover and routed the cables "glove box" --> "bottom of dash" --> "A pillar hole" --> "top of dash" (pushing the cable into the dash seam near the bottom edge of the windshield)

CarPlay is a bit more interesting with the microphone installed. I haven't had much use for "Siri" in the past, but I'm starting to enjoy "Siri" voice commands in the car (and unlike the 11 year old Lexus voice commands, they actually do what I want them to do, more often than not)

Phone calls on CarPlay sound good on the car end, but I've had reports from the far end that "they hear some level of their own voice echoing back to them". It sounds like GROM needs to work on cancelling the speaker signal feeding back through the microphone.

The "boot loops" seem less frequent with the new firmware/software, and non-existent if you can remember the work-around of switching the key to "on", pause a few seconds, then start.

The (factory) backup camera sometimes acts up with the new firmware/software. Work around is to press the "DISC" button (while still in "park") to switch to the factory DVD changer (and out of VLine mode), place the car into reverse (and the camera works reliably in this mode), once you are done using the camera press the "DISC" button again to go back into VLine mode.

The Bluetooth/A2DP "Process Stopped" messages from skipping forward and back, or a long drive, seem to have stopped (or greatly reduced) after the latest updates.

The new OTA update appears to have fixed the random restarting issues while using CarPlay. I did a three hour drive yesterday without one restart, previously on the same drive it restarted 8 times.

Are you guys that have done updates, doing via wifi or via USB memory stick?

Both, the OTA updates are not the same thing as USB updates

They come out in both forms, not sure why some are OTA and some are USB only but I'll update either way as they come out.

@jLB

Would you point me to the USB procedure to update the Vbase? I just did a WiFi update and got VL1.2.0.0 but VBase is still 90.5
