i need front drive shaft flange bolts on my 88. will grade 8 work on these. marlin crawler's front drive shaft bolts say grade 11. i can get grade 8 at the auto parts here in town for a few bucks. i'm going to be paying damn near $30 for three blots nuts and washers to have them shipped from marlin.

I agree with the boneyard idea. Should be super cheap. I usually have a few I've pulled, but I can't find them. The bolts are $1.67 list at Toyota. The nuts I think are $1.16 each (two part numbers, not sure what the difference is).

How many do you need? I can dig to find them.

The OEM bolts have a shoulder (unthreaded portion) on them that matches the depth of the hole. I doubt you will find parts store bolts that will have the same shoulder length, which means you will have threads inside the holes, so you will have unsupported sections in this area. I doubt you will also find these bolts with 14mm head on them, so they won't fit.

I would try to find OEM bolts in a junkyard.

thanks everybody.

i live in western nc in brasstown. its between hayesville and murphy. the slogan here is two hrs from anywhere. it's not that easy to find stuff. however, i did not even think of the junkyard for that.

You mean Class 8. The term "Grade" is for standard hardware, you don't want to mix these up because you'll end up with a weaker fastener.

Don't use a Class 8 fastener for this. It's weaker than a grade 5 standard. You should look for a Class 10.9 or 12.9. Class 12.9 is stronger than a standard grade 8 and likely overkill but of course will work very well.

Have you checked McMaster Carr or Bolt Depot? I often order stuff that's hard to find, saves time driving around.
