I know you are sentimental about that rig, lots of good memories. Based on those pics, the fact is you have ton of work ahead of you for a restoration. For those of us not emotionally attached the decision would be easy.

Yeah... just talked to my Dad. He was happy to hear I was going to give it up. He was starting to regret giving it to me because of the time I was putting in/was going to have to put into it. Now that I've got his "blessing" to let her go, I feel like a weight has been lifted. Sounds crazy, I know.

I've build a lot of 4x4's... I mean a lot, and one of the constants that is always there is that no matter what-- you will lose money on them. The question is how much? Financially, you could put a second mortgage on your house and build that cruiser, and get 1/4 of what you put in it back one day, or you can buy a cheap rig and sell it later for almost what you've got in it.

I hear ya. Ever since you sent me that link to that truggy a few weeks ago, that's been my mentality. Buy an old rig someone's tired of.... doesn't want to hassle with fixing it yet again... or something that that 4Runner up in Denver... and wheel it.

The 55 would have been awesome if I could have done what I wanted to it, but I don't think I was thinking logically.

time to find yourself a good ol' FJ40...you won't be disappointed! Condolences on the 55 though...hard to let go I know...

Thanks, and if there are any compatible parts you need for your 40, they're all yours!

Actually, that goes for any of you CLC regulars. If I've got something you need/want, it's all yours.

That's a really tough thing to walk away from a project you're really invested in ... but damn, thats alot of rust. Not sure you could ever really make that whole. I think you made the right choice.

Travis, Sorry to hear that you are letting your 55 go. Just a thought: I would consider saving some parts of the truck to display in your garage, man cave, kitchen (much to your wifes dismay), etc. Maybe there is something distinctive from the 55 that you would want to hang on to.

I had not seen pictures of the rust before. IMHO, you would need much of a good condition donor body to cut from to save her. I think it would be a significant challenge to repair the rust on this truck.

I'm seriously thinking of seeing a psychiatrist who specializes in automotive abnormalities of the brain (I'm sure there's at least one out there somewhere).

I was cleaning up in the garage this morning and kept thinking to myself, "I can save her....I can save her...."

I need some help. :hillbilly:

Not sure what would have been left if you took it to the sand blaster, That looks like stage 4 cancer. I had to get realistic about my own planned project. Not enough Time and $$$ to do what I once planned. I decided I'd rather be wheeling more even if my old 40 looks like C**p and stinks like unburned fuel it makes me happy to out in the woods with it.

Hmmm... Intriguing. Looks poorly put together, but the parts are there.

Jeez.... you guys are making it hard for me to talk myself into keepin' her.

And Doug, I love your 40 the way it is. Following you, I get that wonderful nostalgic feeling and a little light headed. :grinpimp:

You might be able to pull that off. Not sure how practical it would be either. Could just plasma off the whole lower sill and use 2" square tubing, and make your own trapezoid flat inner fenders, throw away all the doors.
