Hello! I’m looking for a legitimate mechanic in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley area familiar with the 100-series! Somebody real familiar with the 2UZ and Toyotas in general would be great.

The place my truck is currently at (independent Toyota/Lexus focused shop) has had it for almost two weeks now, and they haven’t even started working on it! Along with leaving my truck, I also brought them all the parts (OEM) needed for the job as well.

After passing by the shop a few times, they don’t seem to be taking it very seriously as I’ve noticed they’ve taken other cars over mine even though they told me to drop it off (as of today it’s still in the same spot I parked it, and they haven’t called me with any updates since then, at all) very frustrating as I told them I need it back by late next week for an upcoming trip to AZ.

Finally I decided to call them up today after passing by again to ask what’s going on, and they seemed a bit confused after I let them know which vehicle it was I was calling about. After he got back to the phone he told me they tried starting it and it just cranked, I told him just give it gas when it’s cranking. To be honest I thought that was a strange answer he gave me, since he was one of the mechanics and all, figured he’d know how to get the vehicle started.

When I dropped it off, it was starting fine as I drove it there, very frustrating experience so far as it seems they haven’t really taken a good solid moment to work on my truck… and after giving me that answer I’m starting to think he’s just saying that because there’s a possibility they haven’t even touched the truck at all.

I’m looking for a shop that will take the job more seriously, so any legit recommendations would be much appreciated! Normally I’d do the work myself in my own garage, but unfortunately I don’t have the time since my landlord is kicking my family out of our house next month! Thanks in advance

I've gone to A+ Japanese Auto Repair in San Carlos. They're really good with LC's but super expensive. I'm currently looking for a good shop in the San Jose area. Found a spot called Flex and Function in Campbell but don't know anyone that's tried them out.

A+ is obscenely overpriced as of late. Had a friend take his car there recently for service and we’re taking 3-5x the price anywhere else. It’s a shame heard good things about them 10 years ago

Thanks for sharing the info. Is there a good Toyota shop (doesn't have to be a top rated one here) that charges very reasonable price (by Cali standard)?

Old thread I know, but I'm also looking for a mechanic, LC100, timing belt coming due soon. East Bay preferably. I've had a conversation with Berkeley Bob's, sounds hopeful but some not so promising reviews found. Anyone been to them? TIA

Not sure about his Land Cruiser experience, but can generally highly recommend Yarnell's in Mountain View. He only doing Toyota, Lexus, Acura, ... after warranty. Very calm and cool guy, doesn't repair what's not needed (once "denied" to swap in a new wheel bearing when the other side was bad) and reasonable prices (paid him $10 to program 3 keys for my former RAV4...).

I had Gary do some work when I had my FJ60. The only problem is it's a bit of a drive and Gary is very busy, so having work done that may take a couple hours means I'd probably have to leave the 100 with him and take two vehicles each time, one for the ride back home.

I might give Yarnell's in Mountain View a call, not that it's any closer with the damn traffic in the Bay Area!

I've been going to these two brothers. Honest, reliable, very skilled...
The figured something was wrong with my steering rack within minutes of lifting the truck.. which was driving me crazy for 2+ years.. whereas others wanted to replace the whole rack.
