Damn then I should be good wit h4 in springs(ty) and the 6 in lift slee(ADS) ressie shocks correct??
Translation please?

hahahaha.
Probably typing on his phone.

Translated: "Damn, then I should be good with 4 inch springs (ty) and the 6 inch lift slee (ADS) reservoir shocks, correct??"

4" lift springs and 6" lift shocks :)
Thanks. (Ty)? Pardon my ignorance. A 6” shock will work with a 6” single rate or the 3” tapered coils or the 4” flexi coils.

Run a 4” single rate spring with a 6” shock and you’ll spend your day on the trail re-installing the springs.

Also understand that increasing down travel with 3” dual rate coils and long shocks means that you will most likely need to drop the bump stops so you don’t bottom the shocks out.

Yes, different size springs and shocks can be paired up, but caution in other areas is a must. as you mentioned bump stops would be a good precaution to to preserve the shocks.
I think the flexi coils were the only ones recommended to go together with longer shocks.
Probably more of a function of free height and shock length.

It's the free height of the coils one must look at. Which is what @baldilocks wrote about 2 post up from this.
The 3" Tapered fronts are 24" in free height compaired to a 850J of approx 20.25" which means one can run a longer shock without coils falling out of the buckets.
Now, one can't just say all 6" lift shocks of all brands are all the same exstended length. @David Otero is referring to the Dobinson yellow 6" lift shock.

Just got my order in:

Currently waiting on the 3" tapered springs & MRR shocks to get in (front & rear).

Rig currently has 37s, 4x4 Labs rear bumper, frontrunner roof rack, no rear seats and no drawer system, front trailgear bumper. I'll get measurements going on when we get the stuff in and get it installed!

Interested in how your set up turns out. I have thought about losing my 1” front spacer and then buy a 3” flexi for my rear end. Also running 37’s and armord up, same rear bumper as you....... my concern would be losing too much ground clearance once loaded and headed up a tough boulder strewn trail. Mucho gracious for the many photos I’m sure you will post. :)

Interested in the results of this too. I'm looking to freshen up my suspension and talked to David and he recommended the tapered coils to me as well. I've been ignoring the 80 for awhile and suspension options for the 80 have changed so much!

@baldilocks do you have a thread with your setup? Anyone else running the tapered setup yet?

Reconstruction after rollover - building the White Rhino.

Above is the title of my largely dead and uninformative thread. Page 8 has a little info about the front tapered coils and the 6" yellow Dobinson shocks I installed. I retain the Slee 4" HD progressive coils in the rear for now. They are very good springs and carry loads of weight very confidently. I recently switched from OME "L" shocks in the rear to the Dobinson yellows which have considerably less aggressive compression damping (they compress easier) and basically the same rebound damping as the OME shocks they replaced. The ride is a bit easier on my kidneys now.

@teejnut

Damn you guys...expecting my 3" tapered coils tomorrow from crikeymikey gonna pair them up temporarily with existing fox 3-4" shocks...have slee plates to still install along with new oem bushings throughout...also running slee sway bar drop brackets and extended lines as well as Dobinsons adjustable panhard rods...gonna pair all this up with new bfg 315's

What caster plates are you going with? 2.5" or 4"?
What other extras weighing down your rig do you have?
Do you think it would sag a little, just enough to use 2.5" plates?
I would not use 4" plates, that's the reason I asked you those questions above, since the truck will most likely sag rather than go up in height.

as far as my plates are concerned the naming scheme is at the lift height that caster should read 3*. The factory caster specs have a 2* range (2*-4*) which equates to more than a 1" in lift height variance.

So my 2.5" caster plates will be in spec from 2"-3" while my 4" plates will be in range from 3.5"-4.5".

So if these spring provide an actual 3" of lift my 2.5" plates would work just fine as far as caster goes and should not produce any vibrations with the stock drive shaft.

:)
OK, I'll be a little more clear then.
If one choses a 3" lift, I see nothing wrong with going with 2.5" plates.
I would not go with the 4" plates in that case.

Glad to see you took the plunge. As for going to 35’s, you should already be golden. You may find that the spring contacts the bumpstops up front due to the longer droop.

I have slee progressive heavies out back so I can’t add anything to what you may experience in the rear. My guess is that you may end up adding a trim packer to help maintain a more level stance with all that weight.

I am really liking my Dobinson tapered coils and their cheap yellow shocks in the front. I look forward to reading your comments on the new set up.

Paging @baldilocks

I'm ordering the 3.5" tapered Dobi's with their 6-7" shocks and was sourcing bump stop extensions. Heard someone else mention what you said above about the front spring occasionally binding on the stop. Did you thin yours out a bit to prevent this? I was recommended 3" extensions in the rear. Is there a 3" block on the market? I keep seeing 1" and 2" only.

Also, is everyone running standard driveshafts? Brake line extensions front and rear?

I see you went with the coil packer, I did a 1" 4Crawler body lift instead and hope to get the same result and fit 37s.

@Hitit66 has you covered on the 3" bump stop drops. PM him for details

- I'm running standard driveshaft as well (I have tapered coils front & rear w/ the MRR shocks)
- I did go with brake line extensions, adjustable panhards as well as adjustable upper & lower links in rear to push my axle back a touch (on 37s at the time, on 40s now)
- I also have the 1" body lift, hopefully going on this weekend!

Looks like we will have a similar build, I"m excited to see how yours plays out.

If you can exchange the 6" rear shocks for the 4" rear you won't need as much bump stop.... only like 2" block (refer to Compiled thread) the 4" rear shocks are plenty long. You will loose to much uptravel with a 28.74" 6" rear shock. This lift with the body lift should give you a 25" center of hub to bottom of flare which is 5" of lift.

~~~~~~
4" lift shocks
GS45-912 front 15.35" - 26.37" (Rec BS .5")
GS59-687 rear 16.02" - 26.77" (Rec BS 2")
6" lift shocks
GS59-684 front - 16.53" -28.66" (Rec BS 1.5")
GS59-685 rear - 17.00" - 28.74" (Rec BS 3")
BUMP STOP RECOMMENDATION
(As per David Otero @ Dobinson)
4" lift shocks:
GS45-912 needs about .5" of bump stop extension with a minimum of 525mm/20.67" coil length
GS59-687 needs a 2” of bump extension approx. With a 505mm/19.88" minimum coil free height to stay trapped.
6" lift shocks:
GS59-684 needs about 1.5” bump stop spacing with a minimum coil length of 570mm/22.44"
GS59-685 needs a 3” extension and minimum of approx 555mm/21.85" coil length to stay trapped
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The 4" lift Dobinson yellows are a bit longer than a OME real L shock.
(Hmm... Also notice there is a little play room to stack additional washers to change shock length)
