Kalawang,

Do you have the part number and if you do can do PM it to me?

I'm fairly certain that I could get it and send it to you.

Mot

The day after tomorrow I'll be able to pull it out to get a look at the part number. Thanks in advance.

Doug,

If nobody does, would you still be interested in getting one? :D

Mot ;)

Yeah, I think so. No rush -- just whenever you make another parts run. PM me with the specifics and I can paypal you the funds.

Thanks Mot.

Uh ohhhhhhhh.......ahhh sh*&. I have my July 95 dash taken apart already waiting on my bar and NOW I'm worried. WHAT IS THAT I'm Looking at in the pics????? . I assumed the bar simply had screws coming out from each end of the bar. Do I see a plastic spacer of some sort??
Mot, is there a faceplate that is inserted where the bar meets the dash??
If not we're in trouble guys. It appears that maybe we have to "carve" out a large hole in the dash to make it flush?? Mot help me out here. I have taken apart the ducting and see the factory holes behind the dash. I can t see how the bar attaches with the pics you've sent. How is the bar going to be flush with the dash?

Looks like it's spaced to compensate for the plasitc dash. Nothing a small hole-saw won't take care of. Seems to me it'll be much stonger/more secure that way.

I bet them tabs on the bar fit into the metal dash as well behind the plastic dash. Getting the Dremel and cordless drill ready now ;)

And should still be a very easy install, punch through the holes out the front of the dash, use that to line up your little hole-saw, and gently put two holes in your dash. Maybe worth disabling airbags for this one depending on what's back there, no? Nothing like a running drill with hole-saw kicked into your jaw by an angry air-bag!

:bounce: :bounce2:

Well I dont share your enthusiasm ;-)).....the last thing I want to do is have dash padding coming out after a year or so.....There are no holes for the tabs behind the dash. Secondly, it is surgery to get to the holes...believe me it is not easy...you will be taking out the A/C ducting AND the A/C vent on the pass. side to get to them. I've photographed the holes and will post later. Looks like I'm stuck with a grab bar I wont be needing...hmmm maybe I can put it on ebay ;-))

Slow down, breathe deep...

Mot,

Is the washer-thing with the tab welded/fixed to the bar piece, or loose?

If it's loose, can't you just flip it over so the tab goes into the dash? Not sure why you need the tab anyway. Once the bar is bolted on both sides, its surely not going to rotate around one stud...

OK, the first picture (they show up like I expect) shows the bar from behind.
Notice the arrow pointing up (but actually after inspecting it with the finish of the bar from the upside and the bottom, I believe that the arrow is actually supposed to point "down" OK I took more pics to illustrate that. See the other pics).

You can see the imperfection at the middle of the bar which leads me to believe that it's supposed to be facing down, instead of up. You can also see it in relation to the pic I have with the arrow by the bolt and the tab's location.

The locking tab is most likely fixed because it's that tab that stops the bolt from turning when you tighten the nut. I immediately figured a large hole was needed to mount this thing and the bar itself hides the hole. What's the big deal guys? Poke a hole out from within and grab the appropriate size speed bore and have at it.

I'd hate for you guys to feel like the ski jumper guy who tumbles down the slope. :flipoff2:

OK, here is the part that I'm more concerned about (and did not think about until this moring). BTW the washer with the tab is welded (see pic).

Anyway, you can see in the pics below which I have taken from the side that the edge of the trim where it's supposed to attach flush with the dash is angled.

So naturally when you flup it over, the angle will be the mirror image. Now the material is PVC(I've heard of it and I can see those words in the bar, so I'm assuming that's what it's made of) and it's the same type of material (at least feels like it) that newer dash is made of (not solid, but a little "soft").

Without actually installing one I would not know, but I think you can "shave" it off to match the contour of the dash. But maybe we can request Navid to shed some light on the subject to see if he had encountered similar issues/concerns with his -'94 grab bar installation.

What do you think?

Hope those of you who have paid already are not kicking yourselves. But with this board's ingenuity(sp) I'm fairly convinced that Steve (airlaird) will not be losing any sleep over this. :D ;)

I'm all ears!

Mine looked exactly like the one in the pics. The bar is angled to fit the contour of the dash. We had no problems installing it by drilling into the dash where the tabs are above the glove-box. I'll take pics tomorrow morning since its dark here.

Guys plese understand..I love the grab bar!! I've always wanted one so Iam not trying to put a damper on this. Remember mine is a July 1995 cruiser

Mostofi the question I have for you is this:
Did you drill out a 1 1/4 inch hole into the dash? Secondly, guys I am the KING of installing stuff into my dash and console...I 've got guages, Helicopter cockpit lighting all over the dash and console. Believe me, I can fab like the best of 'em. I have no fear of rigging stuff...I just wish ya'll could see what I see and feel behind the dash.
I won't speculate anymore as I can't tell that well from the pics. I will say this:
Based upon the pics and what I see behind the dash, you may have to drill out a larger hole in the metal BEHIND the dash to make the "spacer" fit.
I can"feel" the hole behind the dash...it's about 3/4 inch in diameter. Someone PLEASE make me wrong on this '-))
Steve

Well it looks to me like you drill out the 3/4" diam or so hole on the surface of the dash to get through the soft dash material only about 1/2" depth or so. At that point you should hit the substructure of the dash (the steel). I would assume that at that point you only want a hole the diam of the threaded post (8 or 10-mm) and that there might be a slot there already (maybe upside down for us?). I wouldn't think you'd need to do anything on the backside of the dash so long as there was enough of the threaded stud poking through to get the nut on.

But all will be told once someone has one in hand or Navid can elaborate on his install.

Feel for you blokes . Im VERY glad all Australian spec 80s came standard with them. And trust me they come in handy. We call them the @&@&@&@& scared bar.

Clown midget, I agree...drill out the foam dash till you hit metal for the spacer to fit in. Well, I'm out. I'll be putting the truck back together this morning ;-)
