Ok, good question. The trails were pretty slick, so I do have to account for that in my first impression. I knew already that steering with the front locked is somewhere between difficult, dangerous, or impossible. Ideally you'll only lock the front for straight or straight-ish direction. We have a slick-rock section where I'd have been climbing two ledges or a ledge and a crack between the F/R. With the front locked, the whole truck was a lot more susceptible to shift (slide) downward with the obstacle. In this situation and others on wet trails, I found rear locker and letting ATRAC handle the front was actually much more useful than bring triple locked.

Of course, when the sun came out and dried us up a bit, and we found some not-so-slick rocks to play on, the front locker helped a ton with grabbing whatever the tires could form over.

I've run this park and all of the same trails before and did everything I wanted to. The lockers in this circumstance didn't get me anywhere further or faster, but maybe did help me try some things I maybe wouldn't have otherwise. I imagine I'll learn them a lot more in the next few months and hopefully be pretty proficient with them. It's NOT just a matter of "lock them and walk over everything". There's more to consider.

Also I had my dad riding shotgun with me, and he's used to his built TJ, so despite being a really smart guy, the strategies for spotting a truck like ours compared to spotting his truck (which I generally drove) are very different. Fortunately, I'd been mostly lucky in finding my own lines if necessary.

Starting to consider detaching my front sway bar... Going to look more into this.

I have yet to wire up the front locker but I remember installing the rear locker was a total game changer for me. I obviously come from zero wheeling background, had only factory LSD in the rear and have no ATRAC at all. I was able to climb a lot of steep, muddy inclines that I couldn't even dream of before.

Crazy thing about GSMTR, I just realized that by sheer luck, I will be visiting Windrock on the week of Oct 26th. I know the event is pre-registration only, so I have no disillusions about joining the actual group rides, but it would be super cool to actually meet up in person!

Dude, how long are you going to be there? I'll be heading up that Thursday I think, the 29th.

***Also, this was in Uwharrie NF in NC.

I was planning to spend Wed and Thursday at the park. Possibly Fri too if missus and kids can stomach that

Will do! I'm having some clunking issues when i switch from reverse to drive and when i let off the gas at a slow speed coming to a stop. My guy in Roswell said it was an issue with the pinion (idk what that is)? That there is some play due to age in there. Shrugs, I'll see what GAS has to say

It will be awesome to actually meet up in person. I am teetotaler so my cup will be dry but I will b happy to hang out!

I’m heading up Wednesday. Gonna be a great event. Much better time of year than last year, not gonna lie, last year it was a little warm at night. Excited for the cool weather.
 
How do you like your regear @MongooseGA? Mine feels like a dog ever since I lifted it and through on some heavy wheels/tires.

Hows it been in the highway?

I want to go with 4:88s to hopefully get some pep back in it. When going over the bighorn mountains in wyoming in June I had the thing floored just to maintain 35mph.
