$127 for labor on a oil pan gasket install. How much for the kit? I ask because my rig is in the same boat...it's not leaking enough to be a serious problem, just enough to be dirty, annoying, and occasionally mark it's territory.

Don't go factory on relay rods or drag links. Go Bud, Marlin, Slee. For the price they are cheaper and a much beefier product. Get new ends from Kurt at Cruiser outfitters as he has the best price by far.

Rain Season Preperation - WIPERS!
Yes, it's that time again and yes, we do get a little rain in Southern California... hehehhe Either way, it's the yearly time to replace the wipers. I went with Toyota-Factory wipers last year. This year I am going with RAIN-X wipers. They are a scratch cheaper than factory and seem just as good so far. New wipers are always great when they are "FRESHYS!"
Other than that, I've been super-busy with work and not too much time to get out!
But having the front axle re-built recently along with oil-pan gasket replaced by YOTAMASTERS has been great as I do not leave the dead dinosaurs laying around every where my truck sits for 5-minutes - NICE!!! I can visit friends without messing up their driveways or parking lots!
So with that done, I can work on getting new exhaust without leaking oil all over the lift and guy working on the truck! Double-Bonus Points!!!

Falken High Country Tires Tread Wear Evaluation
On the 15FWY looking at Mt. Baldy and heading to the Falken Tires Co. located in Fontana, Ca. Today I will be doing some tire evaluation as I approach the 5-month / 4,000-mile mark for these tires. Falken wants to see how these High Country tires have been wearing under the ADV80 on daily freeway driving and my weekend adventures.
Marcel Perez is teching the tires and Mark Richter is my buddy from long ago and works in Marketing for Falken.
I've been a good driver... practicing my best "old man" driving as I want to see how many miles I can get out of these tires and also, with a 3FE engine... there is no "FAST" in the ADV80.
While the wheels look cool, these big tires would just slow my ADV80 to a super-crawl... and that would be on the freeway.
Marcel checks the current tire pressures and regulates for tread depth measuring.
A new set of High Country's awaiting mounting and my ADV80 getting checked out.
There are a couple of tires here.
My buddy Nick who also works for Falken just picked up a TLC, but word is he is giving it to his wife and its getting these nice bronze wheels mounted to some High Country's.

The location of spots to be measured for thread depth across the face of the tire.
The range in air pressure from 38psi to 35psi could be due to cooling as I just drove there. Marcel gets everything regulated down to 29psi.
The numbers don't lie...
Marcel shows he his little handy thread depth gauge and collects the stock thread depths on a set of news tires so I have a cross comparison.
The bottom row of numbers on the card shows the factory / stock thread depths. The above row shows my LF-tire with approximately 4,000-miles logged.
Per Marcel, I have been "babyin" these tires as the tread wear results are great! I'm stoked with the results but I am more stoked with the performance with these tires as they are great for what I am doing with my light-weight weekend adventures.

ADV80 Gets A New Starter
December 30th, 2009 The Toyota Land Cruiser ADV80 finally gave up in the starter department.
Thought I was having battery issues...
but after taking the rather new Optima battery out and heading over to the local Pep Boys, had it tested and passed with flying colors.
So, I placed the battery back it the truck and it started again,
so while it was running
I disconnected the battery to see if the alternator could be the culprit. Alternator seems to be working and the gauge inside indicates it is working. So, after that, it has to be an issue with the starter.
So, I call my trusty crew at Yota Masters in Corona, CA and ask if they have re-build parts as they do not have a new starter in stock nor is a new one available at a couple of dealerships around me. They have a few in stock and they advise to get out there quick. I get the wrenches and get the starter out and shoot out to see them.
I've read the rebuild thread, but my starter was not the stock one and not a nice DENSO one... so, off to see my guys at Yota Masters to get a new one. I pulled it out myself and took it down to test it.
Top Tech Jay is about to pop off the back cover to asses the situation.
Backplate off and sorting the issues.
While worn, Jay said it still has life in the contacts and should not be the cause in the situation.
Jay wants to conduct the bench test and see if it is working and if what the issue is - if any.
So with the "juice" applied, it is engaging the starter shaft to extend outward, but the motor is not actually turning the starter. Bad starter.
Yes, it's time to start fresh and insist on GENUINE PARTS for the ADV80! So Eric of Yota Masters gets me sorted with his local Toyota dealer to get me in So, next day I'm out to dealer to pick up a new starter, exchange my core and be on my way!a starter for Saturday delivery and that I can pick up as the Yota Crew would be in the desert. Fair enough for me!

Put the splash-plate back into place.
My ADV80 is now happy now that it has a freshy-starter!

Added Roof Rack - Wilderness Racks
I have had this roof rack for some time now.. It has been hanging for way too long in the garage - holding up a bunch of junk and was time to move junk out!
I have yet to remove the factory racks. I will be getting some shorter replacement bolts and remove the racks and replace the screws with shorter screws, but I have to take out a couple of stock bolts and find out what the thread pitch is, so that is more time searching... hey "bolt guys!" Any "short bolt kits" available?!
Now I just need to get out and make use of the rack! Work Work Work!!!

This is a god thread. I am in a similar situation to you. I found my TLC cheap...and it seems to be cheap for a reason. I had the same issues with my front axels, got all that redone ($600AUD Supply and Fit), and now I have an oil leak messing up my driveway. Now that I see you had the sump issue, I hope its the same with me. I thougth it mighta been rear main seal. This threas has given me faith in keeping the TLC and not selling it for something newer! Thanks.

July 4th Fireworks at Big Bear Lake, CA
We decided to go check out the fireworks display at Big Bear Lake this year and took the adventure route up the backside of the mountain through Redding and up dirt road -1N54, basically bypassing the paved roads into Big Bear, taking the more scenic way up the mountain.
Scenic Check:
This is a little bridge off the Middle COntrol Road just before we turn up the backside of Big Bear. With all the rain / snow we had this winter, the creek has some good flow.
Very Green:
Everything is so green up here still!
And spectacular views too!
Up and over:
We where not the only ones with the idea to go spectate from atop the remote location as several people where already up on the mountain. We found our little spot and Kona, the family dog is taking in the view.
Hotdogs and a air show:
Sun is setting and boats are making their way on onto the water to find their own unique view.
The mood was being staged:
The show ran for about 45-minutes and while my images where not so great with the hand held, I like how the tree was lit and you can see the boat lights along with the fireworks. Awesome show and as the newspaper stated, Big Bear Fireworks Show is one of the top five in the state. Will we go again next year? you bet! We have our next viewing location planned and will go early to stake it out!

Wife and kids appreciate "civilization" for a quick natural break before heading home.

Driveline Cluck - Search
OK, I've read in the past about this "driveline cluck" and it caught my eye... I think my ADV80 has this very same symptom...

So, did I listen to the thread and buy the "BEST?" No, I bought on impulse. I was at Home Depot picking up some stuff while setting up our booth at XGAMES LA. Saw the grease gun, recognize Lucas, say the "Lifetime Warranty" on the box and thought what the heck! I just need to get it and get some grease into my drive shafts.
Lucas Grease Gun $24 Dead Presidents @ Home Depot. Tube of Lucas Grease was extra.
While I checked my front steering control arms and they had nothing in the way of Zerk fittings, I need to consult my Manual and see if there is an official chart for all the Zerk Fitting locations. Plus, I remember reading where guys have added their own Zerk's to certain locations/spots as well. More research!
