Gauging interest in a new tailgate cover

I'm also interested. I may have missed it, but what does shipping look like for something this size?
For example, shipping to Michigan from CA is $55. Should be right around there.

Also, I spent some time with colors today. See post #1.

What is the minimum required to move forward?

I am going to hold a rally for the tan Gatorskin. Make Land Cruiser tailgate covers Great Again!

haha! I will update post #1 with some pics I took of the Gatorstep. As discussed earlier, I have serious concerns about it's durability. I played with some samples earlier and it was easily damaged with a few stern swipes of a key. I was actually able to shove a key right through it without much effort. I think if used gently the padding would be awesome, but I worry about cost vs longevity.

Maybe if you shoot me your address I can drop a sample to you for a second opinion.

I really need something since the particle board is deteriorating. But need something somewhat pliable like the GatorStep but am worried about it's durability (as noted in the post #1). Wish there was some material that would be a better replacement.

I have a sample coming in a couple of days that I want to send you. Its a 1/4"- 55 durometer material. Available in several colors/patterns and textures. My buddy customizes hunting boats in Louisiana and uses this material.

Any update on this material? Looking to see if there are tougher options. I think the Gatorstep would be comfy, I'd just hate to see it get ratty after a while.

D,

It's decent for flooring, but I think it's about the same as your video in comparison. A few heavy pieces drug across it and it'll be done.

IMO, either a liner material or a tailgate lid is the way to go. If you want cushion... Stay with carpet.

Just ordered a sample from SeaDek.

Just my $0.02 - we use SeaDek material for the transom platforms on our waterski boats. It seems like it's pretty similar to the GatorStep stuff and if so, then I can attest to it's durability. We have guys who put on their slalom ski's on that platform and stand up on before jumping in. It has yet to show any wear or rips and it's going on 4yrs since it was installed on 3 of our boats. Keep in mind slalom ski's have rather large and sharp fins on the bottom plus a 150+ pound guy standing on it, but none of the platforms show any signs of wear or tear. On top of that we have dragged full ice chests, propellers, and even a couple marine-grade batteries across it and it still holds up. Plus it's waterproof and UV & stain resistant. Of course this option won't appeal to those who are looking to use their tailgate as a cutting surface, but it is durable, comfortable to sit on, easy clean up, and it looks good.

Here is some on the platform of one of our Malibu's. Unfortunately I don't have any closer-up pics right now but I could get some as the ski season nears.

My understanding is that it is the exact same material. It was explained to me that the only difference is the adhesive.

Up to you, guys. I have no dog in this fight. I'm probably going with one of the other options personally.

SeaDek sample...

These are fingernail scratches left to right 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 passes.

@TrekboxX trying to find the other sample, but it was a similar result.

Yup, looks like the same stuff. Try that with LINE-X; you'll def need a band-aid!

Thanks.

Anybody know much about anti-fatigue mats? We have a bunch of them (house and shop) and they are tough and would be way more comfy than the other foam. They look molded vs cut, so that's probably $$$...

That isn't the same SeaDek texture we went with. We opted for the smooth yet tacky texture to avoid slipping when there's water on the platform. Despite it's tackiness, for some reason dirt and other grim will not stick to it. I see in your sample the texture has more raised areas (the little circles). I believe the cause of your results from the fingernail test is because your fingernail would grab at the base of those raised bumps and tear them. That seems to be where the majority of the wear is on your sample. If I were to sit on my ski while binded into it and scoot back and forth on the platform (which many others on our team including myself have all done hundreds of times to make sure we're comfortable in our ski), and yet there are still absolutely no signs of ripping, tearing, or wear marks. This is just me giving my experience with the material so take it how you please, just thought I'd give a little bit of insight on it for those who have never actually seen and felt it.
