I hope these go into production! Count me in for tan gatorstep with cup holders.
At this point the Gatorstep is a no go due to lack of interest. I'm trying to get another padded option for you guys.

The line x and richlite are definitely happening. The padded cover will work with either.

Works for me, I just want a little comfort with a spot for two beverages.

How will the padded cover attach to the Richlite?

So, if you are in I need your choice of material and color.

How will the padded cover attach to the Richlite?
You will be able to attach snaps where the machine screws attach the cover. Then the padded layer will snap on and off. I think it's the best of both worlds. The only issue is you are looking at 1/4" plus the padding, so prob just over a half inch. If you have a drawer system that cuts it close, you may want to shim it up slightly.

I assume less textured one is the polyester? It looks coated(?) I think a less permeable (more cleanable) material like a coated fabric or the vinyl you're getting would be preferable to a bare nylon. I think I'd favor the poly one in this comparison.

I'm interested in your removable pad, but will wait to see what you come up with. For the record, I'd also favor a slim and well-fitted pad over a fat overstuffed cushion. Not looking for 5-star comfort here.

Nice work.
Your ambition and your work are impressive.

Made a sample of the polyester. It's the same stuff heavy truck tarps are made from. It looks like it would wipe clean a bit easier than the nylon, but the drawback is that while it is super tough, the nylon is tougher. The last pic shows where I took a key to each one about 6 times, pretty hard. The polyester shows some slight marks..

Thoughts?

Thanks. Yes, the smooth one is vinyl coated polyester. Nothing like "vinyl" as you normally think of it. Very tough. The other looks permeable but it is actually also coated, but on the reverse side. I would bet they are both waterproof, except where my sewing machine punches holes! I agree on the pad thickness. I think it needs to stay around 1/4"- just a bit of comfort but also able to be rolled/folded for storage if need be.

No problem on waiting. The way this is shaping up the pad will be an easy add on to either the LINE-X or the Richlite cover. I still have you down for tan LINE-X for now.

Additionally, the snaps would make a good spot to snap on some utensil rolls or similar that could hang over the end of the gate while camping. Hmmm.

Yep.
Tan LineX for sure.

You could probably create cupholders in the snap-on seat - essentially leaving holes that will hold the cups / cans in place and allow any condensation to end up on the tougher surface underneath. Sure, it will be more work to create, but a simple enough solution, I'd think.

Seems simple, but binding the edge of a small inside circe in the middle of a heavy duty pad could actually be quite impossible. I'm not totally discounting it, but I've done enough sewing to know a nightmare when I see it!

We may be able to split the pad from the edge to the cutout. That may be manageable. I'll mess around with it when I have time.

You have a cupholder at the end of each arm. They're called "hands".
Yah, there's never a time you need both hands to do something while camping. </sarcasm>

Yup. First things first, finish your beverage, then set up camp. Priorities man, priorities.

Ahh, one beverage only? You've not seen me camp... :)

Fyi- water test. Neither accepts water.
Vinyl polyester:

Ballistic nylon:

Also, I received some colors samples of the vinyl polyester. Here are some pics. My personal opinion is that the gray is a bit light and the tan is, well, okay but not right. I'd personally still go with a black padded cover regardless. Opinions?

Black cover for me, thanks.

You know I'm in for a tan Line-X base. I'd be interested in a tan cover as well, depending on the cost.

Black cover for me, thanks.

No strong opinion on the color. If you think the tan vinyl looks like crap with the tan interior, I'd favor the black.

Ok, guys. I updated post #1 with your choices. Please let me know if there are any corrections. I'll be sending all of you a pm to confirm. Let's start making sawdust!

As far as the tan covers- I'm not going to decide for you. In my opinion it's a bit too light/yellow, but it's up to you. I don't have a tan interior to compare it with. But, look at the above pic that shows the tan vinyl next to the tan LINE-X, and then look at this pic comparing the tan LINE-X to the tan interior.

:D
OK then.
If I decide to get one of your covers, it will be BLACK. Per previous discussions, I'd like to see what your finished cover and attachment system look like before I commit to a cover.

...the above refers to the padded cover.
I'm in and committed to the tan Line-X panel.
