I may be alone with this problem but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask....

I am tired of my shifter button sticking me in my knee cap!!!!

And if I try to put my knee below it then I am constantly hitting the over drive button which is even worse!!!:mad:

Is there any kind of shifter knob conversion out there???

Any good ideas???

Any help is much appreciated!!!

Have you tried turning the knob 90º?

I have no idea if it does or not but this is something I ALWAYS go through. Although I am thinking LANDTANK's seat extensions would solve both of our problems.

Assuming you are at least 6' tall because I haven't heard of the shorties out there complain about it :flipoff2:

Yes I have and I couldn't get it to work that way.

I am 6'4" and built like a football player! I will try to find out more about LANDTANK.

Thanks!

Without a doubt, great mod...I am 6'5 and weigh 250 +...like a new truck...

on my 62 I had this problem too, I am 6'4" and now 168#, but was once 225#, and no matter what weight my knee kept hitting the shift/move button,, anyway on my 62 I removed the handle, threaded the rod down the center of the pipe, cut the pipe and re installed it, the shifter knob ended up being 1-2 inches shorter and it works great, no more accidental shifts

I dont know if this is applicable to the 80 but I thought it might help

Yeah I looked at doing that too but it seemed a little complicated so I was hoping to find a real simple knob swap!

Some thing like this...

CHROME PLATED SHIFT KNOB WITH OVER DRIVE : JC Whitney: Auto Parts & Accessories

But I don't know if it will fit???

Perhaps the installation of a knob from a RHD. If the knobs are set up so that the buttons are to be operated with the thumb then a knob from a RHD should have the buttons on the right side. Might be more cumbersome to shift and using the O/D button might be a tricky since you wouldn't using the knob design as intended.

Gotta give props to LandTanks seat mod too! I'm 6'2" and have never been called petite! Before the mod my knee was constantly bumping the OD button on and off and on long drives there just was no where to move the feet around. After the mod it was a night and day difference! I never bump the OD button and my legs actually can move around a bit!. Like all of Ricks products it it very well made and very thought out!

Landtank, if your out there let me know I need a set of your seat extensions! :D

Bringing this thread back....After driving 800 miles I need to do something with this shifter...even with the seat extensions I still bang into the shifter :frown::frown:

This trip brought up some issues but that one is the biggest and probably the quickest to fix...

Try a supra shifter.

which generation supra?

Is there any reason a Tacoma joystick wouldn't work?

Can't find it, but you might search - I think someone used a razo shifter - cause I asked when I first got my truck, for some reason afer a couple months it doesn't bother me anymore - but then again I don't do the long road trips in the Lexus anymore.
