FZJ80 Narrow Skinny tires

I like the skinny tire look, but 235 is going to look like spare tire donuts on a flared 80. Also, they are just under 32”. I think the 255 85 16 is the right tire, almost bought them my last go around.

If you like skinny why not go way old school?

Rovers North sells a 7.50x16 in a Michelin XZL that is though as they come.

Cheers

Out of curiosity, I tried to find but can’t find it on their site. Let me know if you have a direct link. Seems the prices are pretty nuts and you better have an air seat. There is a 255/100 XZL. Maybe another lifetime, but that sounds like good fun.

Quick search of their site, I don’t see them either. They used to carry them, it’s been at least 5yrs since I fit this set to a Patrol.

I have this size on my 45, it suits that vehicle well, not so much on the 80, too short. The 255 100 r16 or 9.5 r16 could be an option, probably rides like there made of concrete though.

There are avenues for the 9.00, 9.5 and 11.00-16 tires. Most of them require a bulk order from wholesalers that ship from overseas. I have used the 11.00-16 on a good many trucks over the years. I will be running them on my current project but they will be the Michelin XZL. They are commercially available still but on the pricey side at about 380.00 each. The bright side to any of these commercial/ military tires is that they will likely dry rot before you wear the tread off of them. The last set I ran on the road and trails had 20k on them when I bought them, I ran them for 40k and sold them to another guy who grooved them and ran them for who knows how long. incredible tread depth and life.

Hey they asked for skinny. It is up to them to decide how skinny. ;)

Lol. All you guys are awesome. Just when I think I have my mind made up, you throw something like this and it’s just really cool. So, quick search and I found a guy who gets those at about 60-75% thread remaining, about 1:30min away from me, in 9x16. The 8.25x16 seems like a great bolt-on size but looks to be coming from Canada (G-wagen). There‘s a guy on the forum bug616 that has built what I aspire to. I’d have to lift, and I think my gas motor would beg for regearing, but he‘s done what I’d like to have. I’ll look around a little more of the 8.25x16.

Reviving this thread I started months ago, well ‘cause work got in the way. since my tires are balding, and I can’t seem to find the Toyo M-55 at an affordable price, I’ve decided to go ahead with the BFG KM3 in 255/85r16 and I’ll mount it to the OEM 8 inch alloys. Question: does anyone know if the KM3 in 255/85r16 fits in the spare location? Looks like if it does it’s going to be close.

It will.

Thanks HDJdreams. Fit it did. barely, but it’s in there. I took measurements with the 275/70r16 G056 and I’ll take some later today with the KM3 in 255/85r16. Just in case someone is interested.

I am running the 35x10.5x17 Kenda with 1.25” spacers and an IronMan 2.5-3” lift.

I like the tires. Noise isn’t bad but they are a little sketchy at highway speeds. It probably has more to do with the fact that every bushing under my truck needs replaced but I do like the tire.

So how are the Kenda holding up for you? Still happy you went with them?

I for one would love to know the actual on car measurements for the KM3.
thanks!

Got my 35x10.5x17 Kenda Klevers mounted. So far so good very minimal road noise. Wet weather is very good. Ran through a few mud holes after this shot and they had good bite. Mud clears out of the thread pretty easily and doesnt throw rocks like my KO2's do. True measurement on tires is 33.5 inches I'm running 40psi.

Here ya g

Digging this one up again. Considering the 35 10.5r17 on my flareless 80. Currently on 285/75/16’s on zero offset 16x8’s so have a couple of questions for you or anyone else running these.
1. Do you have a photo looking down the line of the side of the car? How much does the tyre poke out?
2. What offset rims are they on? Assume 0 but thought I’d check.
3. Any heavy scrubbing on flex or turning?
