OK, I need some help please
I have a new to me 1988FJ 62 that took a little while to start. Sometimes I’d have to turn the key pull the throttle a bit and then it would start up
I saw a video of someone actually Jonas, who restores Land Cruisers mentioning sometimes when it’s hard to start to possibly change the fuel pressure regulator located on the fuel rail
I ordered an aftermarket part looked like it would be an easy 10 minute job little did I know the rabbit hole I would open up
I took off the pressure regulator from the fuel rail, which looked pretty worn on the exterior so thought the new one would only help
When I was trying to install the aftermarket sensor, unfortunately, I broke one of the bolts that has sheared in the fuel rail
I was able to reinstall the old pressure sensor as the aftermarket didn’t seem to fit. It was extremely hard to push down into the fuel rail, so I didn’t end up using that.with I ended up just reinstalling the old pressure sensor thinking I would drill the broken ball out in the future
That night it started right up. I was able to give it gas and seem to run great for about half a mile and then sputtered and would not really be able to drive underload. It would start up and seem to run fine but then as soon as I put it into gear, it seemed like it didn’t have power and would sputter and barely keep running. I was able to get it started and actually get it to drive home but feel like I was lucky.
It hasn’t had this problem, even though I’ve only had the truck for a month. I’m wondering if this might have been an issue that I have created by messing up the fuel rail or by only having the pressure sensor in there with one bolt or could this be fuel pump or possibly fuel filter?
I did try to drill out the bolt unfortunately, the left-handed stud extractor broke inside the bolt, so my only options are to replace the fuel rail or tap the existing fuel rail with a new bolt
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Not sure if I need to spend more time literally trying to replace the fuel rail or should I start down the fuel pump fuel filter or something else?
Thank you in advance
