I'm new to the LX470 - only owned my 2002 for about a month now.
Reading this forum are several mentions of the FSM.
Checked Ebay and they are quite expensive. Noted that there are 3 books:
Service 1 and 2, and Electrical.

Is there a less expensive way to access the FSM information other than spending $200 - $300?

Also, I purchased a TechStream interface and finally got it working.
All I have been able to do is look at some data. I read that TechStream can
do a lot of good things.
Is there a tutorial on how to use it?

I bought an '01 in 2009. I bought the FSM's and the Electrical Wiring Diagram book from helminc.com for ~ $300 shipped. Cheap, compared to > $120 per hour labor rate at either the 'Yota or Lexus dealers around. Just went to their website, only stuff available now are the owner's manual and nav manual.

I would expect prices will tend to go up. IMO, the 2002 FSM set at the top of the page at $209 shipped is MORE than reasonable. ;)

2002 Lexus LX470 LX 470 Repair Manual 2 VOLUME SET Shop Service OEM

My '01 does not have its own Wiring book, the 2000 was identical with wiring, yours probably does also. So you want the 2000 edition.

I'd check the classifieds here at least daily, and post a "wanted" ad.

@cwmoser check with www.faxonautoliterature.com. I bought mine there and they show having the two volume set for 2002. Not showing the wiring book in stock.

Thanks. I purchased that set.
Don't have an immediate need but its insurance when I will need them.
In the meantime, they will make interesting reading.

I plan on keeping my LX470 for a long time - so I guess its a wise purchase.

Are they well written? I am familiar with the FSM for the Isuzu Trooper and they
have a lot in information but its not formatted in an easy to use style. I once worked
for a division of a company that produced technical manuals so I am a little OCD about
presentation of information in an easy to use format.

I looked in the FAQ's but it stated that the manuals are no longer downloadable.

You can buy a two-day, or month, or longer access login to the Toyota Techinfo website and download manuals on many Toyota products. Unfortunately sometime back they changed their file structure to make it easier for online use/reference, but harder to download and use offline. I bought a month's access and downloaded the manuals for four different family vehicles. I installed a software based web to pdf printer in Firefox and it captured the files along with the section names as I clicked my way through them. Then I used a couple of PDF creation tools to assemble the individual sections into manuals, e.g., FSM, EWD, Collision, Drivetrain. I also assembled a set of parts diagrams for the 2000 LX470 - I put up a link to that file in another thread somewhere on here. I would say the newer the vehicle, the larger the manual. The pdf version of the factory repair manual (FSM) for my 2000 LX470 is about 33MBytes in size, but for a 2013 Prius v with optional Advanced Technology Package, it's 182MBytes.

I know this might not be very helpful for you considering you're looking for the LX version, but I put together the FSM for the '98-'07 LC on my Dropbox. Considering the LX and LC have similar platforms some of the components may be identical depending on what section you're looking in. You can find the link HERE

Thanks. I downloaded those sections and will enjoy perusing through them.

I am almost the new owner of a 2006 LC100 and am starting to shop around for a set of the FSMs. Toyota purchases them from Helm and even they are out of stock. They list 2 volumes but I have also seen a 4 volume set. Does anyone now what each set includes? There is also a separate electrical wiring diagram book. Searching within the forum all of the links I have found do not work.

This is awesome!

I ended up just buying the exact FSM for my LX 470 on ebay. I bought from sellers quikby and faxonautolit, and everything was fine. Yeah, they were expensive but they have already paid for themselves in the first six months of owning my 100. I absolutely would recommend getting a proper set of shop manuals for your model/year. They are really well written and are worth the coin.

Great call right here.... 20$, 2 day membership. Spent yesterday getting Repair Manual, EWD, 100 SB's, heck.... i even downloaded Course Books and Quick Training Guides. Waste of a day, but having all this in pdf form is gold for me as i moved it right to my google drive and now i can see from anywhere i have an internet connection. thanks for the tip. Sure it takes some clicking (4 clicks per each document/section) so its a lot of clicking.

Some tips for setup. Print>Save as PDF is the 4 click step. for the repair manual all sections/parts/chapters use the same coding so no need to name those. So each time i got to a section i made Folders on my hard drive for that section so when it came time to Print as Pdf the folders were ready making it really just a clicking task. ( For sb's, course books and quick training, i manually named.) rest of sections used this style coding so there is consistency in each section.
COMP component
INST installation
DISA disassembly
etc

This really went fast as i got going and grasped that making the folders in advance was key to each section. EWD in under an hour. I spent about 8 hours milking the whole project, i suspect you can get repair manual done in 5 hours or so. Good Luck, thanks for the $$$ savings.

Pic of Folder(s) made in order to do this. as you see, a LOT of folders, but its a no brainer to setup and then download once folders are made. Creating and Naming the Folders is the hardest part of task. Use "New Folder" button, not right click new/folder (just trying to save you clicks/time).

I will not be compiling this into one pdf. So, holler at me if anyone needs a 2000 LX section :)
