Any other suggestions?

I have the F-N-R / R-N-F clunk and my original axles are starting to sling a bit of grease. Figured I would nip it in the bud with new axles, flanges, and bearings all in one shot.

Also, I have two torn ball joint gaskets and the freeway wander is starting to get annoying. "While I am in there," I might as well do a complete refresh on the A-Arms with new bushings and ball joints. Also sway bar bushings and links...

I am going out of town for a few weeks and am going to order the parts while I am gone. I am going to take a few days off when I get back in early June and tackle this project. Before I finalize my parts list, what else am I missing or would be good to take care of while I am in there? Like bushings... Are there some areas where poly bushings are better than OEM..?

After this project is done, I am going to refresh the rear.

Here is the list:

Total Price in parts and my labor: $1,795.73 $1,792.71 $1,880.87 plus shipping

Edit #1: Dropped the quantity of flange gaskets from three to one since they come as part of the bearing kit. I did keep one on the list, though, since they are only $1.50 and I would probably end up tearing one (me being me, and all...).

Edit #2: I went ahead and added Whiteline steering rack bushings and AHC shock bushings. Additionally, I updated the links for the dealership parts to a direct link to the actual part, vs the general link to the part diagram page. This forum has helped me considerably and I hope this does the same for few people out there...

I have started to order the parts and should have them all within the next few weeks. That being said, I am leaving for my business trip in a few days and will not be done until late May or early June, so the documentation on the work will be delayed till then. I will be taking a few days off when I get back to play with this project and will document as much as possible. Any recommendations regarding other easy targets for me to replace "while I am in there" are still welcome

I thought I read somewhere that the upper ball joints can't be replaced without replacing the whole arm. If they're selling an upper/lower kit, what's the process there?

Toyota doesn't sell just the upper ball joint, only the whole arm. But, 555 sells just the joint. They're not available in the US, Cruiser Outfitters @cruiseroutfit had a bunch coming in, I don't know if they've gotten them in stock yet. The lower can be pressed out while the arm is on the truck, the upper it's best to remove and use a press.

I'm interested in doing a suspension refresh on my rig before HIH7. Subscribed.

Steering rack bushings and shocks (unless LX with AHC)

If an LX, replace shock bushings. Also check diff mounting bushings and replace if worn.

I believe the bearing kit from cruiser outfitters comes with a new flange gasket.

Good call... I'll update the list accordingly.

Another good call. I'll add the rack bushings to the list.

Yes, mine is an LX, so shock bushings are appropriate. Will add.

The diff mounts are original, so I do not see replacing them as a bad thing. Then again, I would like to swap to a front locker later this year and think it would be better to swap them then... Otherwise, this could really turn into a "while I am in there" type of project that immobilizes my truck for six weeks :wrench:

OK.

I cannot seem to find the P/N for the steering rack bushings. Also the bushings for the shocks (AHC equipped LX). Little help?

Another question: is there any bushing where poly would have an advantage over OEM?

Thanks everyone...

No OEM replacement for steering rack bushings. Aftermarket poly only.

Just from a quick search on a lexus parts site:
Front lower bushing: 90903-89016
Front Upper bushing no 1: 90948-01075
Front Upper bushing no 2: 90948-01076

Rear lower bushing: 90385-19010
Rear Upper bushings: 90948-01077 & 90948-01078

I don't like poly bushings on anything personally, but it is a matter of opinion.

Are those the part numbers for the A-Arm bushings? If so, is there any difference between Lexus and Toyota?

ETA: Nevermind. I just looked under my truck and realized the shock bushings are not exactly like my old Ford...

ETA ETA: I am an idiot. I think you are referring to the A-Arm bushings...

I am giving you the part #s for the AHC shock bushings you were asking for.

Got it (this time). I am working on the front end for now and was so focused on that I thought you were saying each shock had two bushings on either end...

There are moments I can be a little dense :bang:

I appreciate the help, and the list will be updated in the morning.

Any recommended supplier for those? The dealer I am referencing in my original post seems to be the best deal for OEM Toyota parts, but I have not done much research into Lexus specific suppliers.

When I typed the p/n's into the site you linked most of the parts through, they showed up. The LC/LX may use the same shock bushings, not sure off the top of my head.

Understood. I'll run with it and update with how things work out. Thanks again...

ETA: Is there anything I should look at regarding the torque tubes? I will have them out and now might be a good time to replace/upgrade. The truck currently has 206K miles and the front end is pretty much all original. Also, plans are in the works to add a Dissent Offroad front bumper before the end of the year...

The torsion bars on AHC-equipped 100s have a different spring rate than non-AHC or aftermarket bars. They are designed to assist the AHC system with carrying your front end, but too weak to carry the front end on their own. You will need to change them out if you ever rip out the AHC and put in a conventional suspension, but if you plan on keeping the AHC, then you need the lighter bars.

I suspected it was something like that. And yep, the AHC system is really convenient and I plan on maintaining it as best I can. I know it will cost a bit more in the long run, but for a 90/10% road/off-road vehicle, it is perfect for my purposes. Thanks for the info.

Also as a heads up, I ordered all four ball-joints from the link in my OP. It is coming from Australia and will be here in about two weeks, but $137 shipped for a full kit of two upper and two lower joints is a REALLY good deal. Especially since they are authentic 555's and not random knockoffs. I'll report what they look like when I get back from my trip.
