Front DC drive shaft vibration:

We can eliminate the shaft- I'm running a new on that doesn't vibrate, so we could put it on yours and see what we see before you ship the thing.

Don't know what shipping to CO costs, but to Maryland from here was almost a grand one way.

Could we do that Sunday before the run? Well, I don't even know how. I could pay ya to do the flip-flop! :)

I would really prefer not to be crawling around in the dirt swapping a driveline in and out 3 times one hour before a run. Call me spoiled, but I have a beautiful shop, creeper, air tools, stereo and chilled beverage dispenser at my house. It's a lot closer than CO to you, too. :D

...although Kevin seems motivated, perhaps he'll swap 'em Sunday morning.

ok, John, just one more thought on this grotesquely lengthy thread.

What about your re-gear? IIRC, you've got less than a few hundred miles on this truck since you had it re-geared right? Just a thought but you might be getting your noises from the diffs rather than from the shafts or xfer.

Smooth as silk

Lift went on and vibes hit

Gears/lockers done...no change

John, I feel for ya!

I have the same issues!!

OME J's ... Grrrrrr

Ome J's with 1.5 spacers ... More Grrrrrrr

OME J's with 1.5 spacers + castor plates ... Alot More Grrrrr and slow speed VIBRATIONS (@5-10mph under acceleration only)

Rear Shaft only with above ... SMOOOOOOTH as silk

Above plus DC Front Drive Shaft ... NO More Grrrrr ...BUT, High speed Vibrations (45mph+)

WTF is the deal??

I am sick of swaping drive shafts etc too

My sollution is 3 link the front end (adjustable) and add more lift to help the pinion angle a bit.

I think swampers could help too :D maybe drown out the vibes with some louder vibes

I like that one. I wonder what I could do to my 80 to make it vibrate, then convince the wife I need to 3-link and lift it even more...?

Boy, anyone else feeling like they should be making offerings to the non-vibe Gods after reading this litany?

WOW! WOW! Maybe nothing is wrong with my truck then....or we both have some other issue. I'm not willing to drop down to 3" until I exasperate my options at 5.5". How long have you driven your truck that way?

I have about 400 miles on the truck with the current set up. D/C front drive shaft installed. I am going to pull the d/c shaft out tonight untill I add more lift next week. The vibes are the worst at 45, diminish abit above that but are still there all the way to 90 :D I think we are stuck between using the stock and d/c drive shafts...these trucks seem to be really sensitive to drive shaft angles...No?

My LX was looked over pretty good today by some experts. They measured my front pinion/shaft angle and it's perfect.

Everything else felt tight. I was told to drive it and not worry about it and the bad part might begin to show itself. We also decided I should rebuild my front axle ASAP to see what change that makes.

I did do about an hour of wheeling today and yes that front axle is popping on the driver's side. The longer we were out the more often it popped. It popped as we'd change directions and hit the brakes or holes when flexing. My old 80 did that too intil we rebuilt the axle.

So, I'll resume to this thread after the axle rebuild.

Meanwhile MartT...if you find something please post up. THANKS!
