1 month 80 series owner here! Sorry if this is the millionth time this has been asked here lol but is there a compiled list of oem part numbers for a front axle rebuild on a 91’? I serviced the diff and it was full of greasy gear oil! Birfs click on full lock so I’ve heard flipping the birfs is an option and just rebuilding the axle is needed to fix the grease getting into the diff depending on the condition of the birfields. But I think I rather just replace the birfs while I’m already in there so I just want to know everything part wise I will need to buy! I don’t mind hunting for oem parts on ebay but if there is any proven recommended rebuild kits out there along with birfields that are oem quality or better please let me know! I want to get my rig road trip ready. Thanks for your guys help!!!

Hit up one of the vendors on this site such as @cruiseroutfit and they will sort what you need.

It is rare to replace birfs. Usually the kit above, new wheel bearings, trunnion bearings, and a real good grease packing does it.

They will start to click in turns. Mine were clicking so I swapped them right for left and vice versa which has worked, that said I'll probably invest the next time I'm in there.

I would inspect them for excessive wear (grooves) within the knuckle and excessive play when you wiggle/rotate the diffential end while keeping the hib end fixed. Should allow clean rotation without play. I have had birfs that clicked and just did seals and repack and they worked just fine without needing to swap left or right. Once you clean all grease off, share some pics or video. Most on here can give you an opinion

Thanks this what I wanted to know, will go ahead and upload some pics of them when I start tearing down the axle 👍🏼

You can clean the birfs without needing to separate the birf from the axle shafts connecting to the differentials

^^^^ I just finished rebuilding the front axle with this kit. Awesome kit and when I have question, just a phone call away (always someone that pick up the phone) or DM (replied the next day or sooner).

And our kits include more parts too!

Thanks for the kind words!

Not to steal the thread here but just recently rebuilt the front end. I now have a clunk from driver side. I tore it all down and checked my work again, rechecked all the preloads and buttoned everything up and still a clunk. Any thoughts of what to look at next? I know the "clunk" has been discussed at length on here but just trying to figure this out. Generally happens on left hand turns and seems to be focused on the driver side.

You'll get more responses if you create your own thread. Have you seen the ONSC cluchouse?
