I have a friend who is wanting to do a frame swap on his 40. The frame he has is eat up with rust. Will a 80's model Fj40 body fit on a early model 70's frame without moving any body mounts?

So "NO" but could be done with relocating body mounts? Is the frame a different length?

Would be easier to fix the rust!
Not sure how bad the rust is. Nothing for me to cut something apart and weld back together. If its just a situation of relocating some body mounts, then that is easy enough. I've got an extra frame and just wanted to help get his 4O rolling with a good frame.

I think I read a post where someone had done it. There was a major redesign in 1979. The gas tank went under the tub and the floors were changed along with engine and driveline cross members. I think spring widths and hangers are different too. Its way more than just slapping the tub on.

79-80 still have small brushing leaf spring
Front A mounts are the same , you have to swap the big B mount and drill the rear crossmember

I did the opposite , 77 body on a 79 frame
