I decided I want a V8 to tow my camper up the hills instead of the V6 FJ Cruiser.
I had wanted to put a 2UZ into a cruiser for a while and had started collecting parts and researching locations, mounting points, and stretching the body to fit the longer wheelbase which I wanted. I had thought of doing this on my FJ55 frame, but the tow capacity is higher and the stance is wider using the FJ80 frame.

I picked up a FJ80 frame in OH with full floater rear and both axles have lockers. I pulled the FJ40 tub out of storage that came from a FJ40 that Gary had stripped years ago. I had picked it up since I wanted to build a 4 door FJ40. This seemed like a great use for the tub since it has a bit of rust and it can be replaced while being cut apart.

I have been looking for a 2003 land cruiser transmission, still looking. Anyone have any sources?

For Christmas, my son found and bought a 2003 4Runner limited for me so I have the wiring harness and all the parts I would need to collect.

Working we Dad we have started sorting out body mounts and with the help of Vossie in Zimbabwe who sent me his file for the front cab mount we have located and tacked in a few of the mounts.

I decided I want more leg room so I am going to move the gas tank in the cab back 4 inches and extend the rear seat mount and body mount tube back 4 inches as well.
I will need to add 22 inches to the body behind the front door to fit the longer wheelbase. Here are a few pictures of the start!

Good luck with this build! Gonna be watching for sure...

Since you got a 2003 4runner, if you or know a good transmission guy, you can convert the 4runner tranny to LC tranny... you just have to rip it apart to get at the rear housing/output....

There's a post somewhere on here where a guy did it...

Granted finding a LC tranny is ton easier :)

Thanks! I will have to search for that and see what is involved. I spent lots of time looking until I realized they were different due to the drivers side drop and center rear output.

I found the post, I think, He had a LC tranny so he had the tail shaft and the housing to go on the back, so I would need one to get those parts, since I don't have them.

Fit is coming together on the FJ80 Frame, front frame horns are out in front of the grill about the same distance as a FJ40, within a 1/4 inch.
Need to find another early grill, as this one is from a 61 and it is really rusty on the back side.

That looks... Complicated. I will help anyway I can. I did my swap and it took over 3 years. :( I'm still working through some bugs.
Andy,
What bugs are you still working on? This will take me time too, lots of custom work to do! Hard top will take time too!

I still have a rev limit around 3500rpm. I think the source was some misinformation on the unfinished build threads I read. That's the biggest issue but I also need to find a way to reconnect the iac valve. To make it idle correctly.

Did you do your own harness or send it out to simplify?

Why the 2003 LC tranny? I would think a T100 from a 3.4 truck with a Uz bell housing would be ideal.
The LC transfer case has the passenger side drops I need for the axles. The Tundra, 4Runner, FJ, Sequoia all have driver side drops for the front and the center rear axle. The LC Tranny bolts direct to the early manual transfer case, the other trannys have different adapters for their transfer cases.

If that makes sense....

I did my own. The 2uz being more complicated I think your best bet will be a complete running donor. You will need all the emissions stuff and the immobile with key.
Yes, I have the donor and started stripping off the fenders and bumpers. I think I am going to send out the harness to get done, they can adjust everything to do what I want it to do.

Looking good, u didn’t wanna run gas tank under body?
Maybe in back where spare tire went?

This intrigues me. From my understanding the transmission behind the 2UZ should be same across the platform and the transfer cases are bespoke for each model so the transfer case from one should fit another. The only difference ive found so far is the spline count that I belive younwould have to change in the case to get to adapt to the transmission.

You've done the research so this is just info I need to store, ive considered building a 2002 4Runner with the drive drain out of a Sequoia to keep the ability to have 2wd but also the awd and center diff lock.

Toyota always surprises me.

I look forward to seeing how the build goes!

There is a company that can eliminate the need for an immobilizer and certain emissions requirement out of the ECU but I can't find them now googling.

I have a tank under the rear of my FJ40, and I put the stock tank inside as well giving me an extra 16 gallons.
I am thinking of doing the same thing again, but I need to see the space I have left then can fabricate it to fit.
I pump the front tank to the rear tank.
