Look for an older Subaru. I bought a '93 Legacy 4 years ago with 130,000 on it. I drove it 100 miles a day and then some for 3 1/2 years without a problem. It now has 180,000 on it and it's still going strong. I get about 26 mpg. The USMB is a good site for more info (Ultimate Subaru Message Board). About as good as Toyota's without the cost.

Sorry I can't help with a specific vehicle though, I live in Utah, a little more than 10 miles. Good luck!
