Since there is a larger speaker mounted, do you do anything with the opening in the factory panel? I am asking because I am in the process of building storage drawers in the rear and want to allow for room for the sub woofer upgrade.

We are using the factory panel opening on our setup to keep the stealth idea. Sound does not seem to be affected at all.

For those of you who are interested in a sound comparision, I am trying to get a "subwoofer on" verssus "subwoofer unplugged" video put together that you can all check out.

I'll let you all know when it's posted on our Whole Hog Tech site, fighting to figure out a way to capture the sound enough to make it worth anybodys time to listen...

Stay tuned (pun intended)

Nice product you guys have there. I am doing some prep work to install a ppure sine inverter into my 97 LC80. Inside the rear panel is a good candidate but was stuggling on how to mount it. Any Ideas??

We have an inverter project started for the 80. When the prototype is finalized, I'll start a new post on this as well...

Still looking for how folks have setup the wiring to the amp - using the stock wiring from the stock amp. My amp has high level inputs so no RCA required, just using the wiring from the stock setup. Can't seem to get the remote to kick on the amp with the head unit - do I need a dedicated wire??? The gray has 12V and the Red-Black remote has 2+V. Would like to hear back if you have a simialr setup. Thanks.

I had a wiring diagram for the 80 amplifier, let me see if I can dig it up for you guys...

I would be interested in a simple mounting bracket similar to your amplifier one but for the entire vertical space there between the cubby and the D pillar. It could be left blank and used to mount fuse blocks, inverters and all sorts of good stuff.

Just a quick update for everyone today.

1. We have the accessory mount at fab so stay tuned! About a week or so out for the post on that.

2. For those of you who have purchased the mounts, we'd love to see some feedback here on MUD about how they work and how the installation went.

I saw the post on the factory wiring schematic again today - I'll get that dug out for you guys…

Thanks, I cant wait, I have been searching for a Converter that will fit in the amp space based on your specs.

Adam, i like that idea...

No updates on the inverter yet - we have been slammed sinced the SEMA show.

We have however launched a web store at Whole Hog that has two of our prototype units for sale if anybody is interested. One prototype is for the sub woofer only, the other is a steel version of the woofer/amp combo mount bracket.

We should have the inverter moving here shortly. How many people are interested in one at this point? Send us an email at products@wholehogtech.com.

Is the plan to incorporate the inverter to the sub/amplifier bracket or will it be a standalone?

This is an awesome product. The Website is very nice too. Now to save my pennies...

hmm sent 2 emails now.....no response. Anyone home at the hog?

This is how mine turned out, the sound is good but had some issues with rattling so i packed it out and it seem to work great. Awesome idea and a really good way of using the space.

After the amplifier was squared away, then it was time to mount the sub woofer. Again Whole Hog has a technical reference page to identify available speakers for this mounting location at wholehogtech dot com. We used a Pioneer TS-SW841D shallow mount speaker here. You have 3-1/2 inches behind the mounting plate to work with.

Technical reference for sub woofer model information at www.wholehogtech.com

The Whole Hog mounting plate allows speakers with six (6) or eight (8) mounting bolt patterns at several different orientations. If the speaker fits in the mounting depth requirements and is of the 8 inch sub woofer variety, odds are that it will bolt right up.

After mounting the sub woofer to the plate, we attached the appropriate electrical connections. Prior to attaching power to the amplifier, make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal on the vehicle to prevent shorts.

During our installation, we ran audio cables down the passenger door sills and the positive power cable along the driver door sills to prevent potential interference problems. There are several good grounding points at the passenger rear corner of the vehicle (make sure you don't try to use one of the isolated bolts for the factory rear bumper though...)

I bought and installed this solution a couple of weeks ago. Very nice. It fit perfectly and installed easily. Very elegant design.

One word of caution to those implementing this solution. It will vibrate. I had to install a piece of pressed wood between the sub and the rear quarter panel to eliminate the vibration problem. It is simply an issue of trapping the sub so it doesn't "jump around" so much. It now sounds superb!

I'll post up pictures in a day or two when I have time.

Is this setup using free air space? How does a sub woofer sound without an enclosure?

doesnt JL Audio have a free air sub?

Ordering

I tried to order a mounting bracket today and could not get through to to security reasons, so I called their sales department and they are looking into the online ordering. Anyone else have this problem?

Ordering

Ended up calling and ordering over the phone, I'll let you guys know when I have installed the sub.
