As most of you know I started the subwoofer replacement/upgrade project today. I started at about 9am this morning and will have the working prototype in the truck and playing by the end of the day today in the "sealed" version.

The enclosure as of now (12:36pm CST) is built and fits behind the factory panel with absolutely no problems or contention, slips right in and right back out.

I apologize for not posting pics of the progress, I accidentally left me SD card at home although I brought my digital camera.

98% of the enclosure is 3/4" MDF with a fiberglass back although I initially wanted it to be all of MDF. I will go home today at lunch and get the SD card and post photo's shortly, I'm waiting for the fiberglass to set up right now...

Steve

It's Done!

Guys....

At 1:45pm Fiberglass was set, I put the sub in, wired it up, played it and I was shocked....

The enclosure sounds AWSOME......So awsome I'm only going to offer it in a sealed enclosure.....there is more great news.....

You have to do ONE modification to your rig to get it to fit.....There is a pocket located in the rear passneger side panel, you have to remove the inner pocket....you cant even see it from the outer part of the panel. Your factory panel will snap into it's factory location with absolutely no problems and no rattling.

I'm running home to get my SD card now.....Pictures soon to follow...

Enough teasing already! No more "updates" until you post pics!

:D ;)

Aren't the LX450 rear passenger panels different?

Does this work for both style trucks?

Can't wait to see pics.

Yes. I think the only difference is there is no molded in "grill" for the subwoofer, as the LX "sub woofer" is in the center console. I imagine anything that works for one, will work for the other, with the exception of maybe adding a speaker grill. Can't wait to see what LDD came up with.

Any recommendations for amps that will confortably fit behind that same panel, power the sub well, and not cost an arm and a leg?

Cary,

Thats step 2.....we are working on an attached amp rack that will also fit behind the panel. I'm going to use and reccomend the Exile X300.2 amplifier....I like keeping everything the same....

Ok, so here are the pics........KEEP IN MIND....this is the prototype and it is unfinished....but we have worked all the bugs out and it plays awsome....

The finished product will be wrapped in carpet even though it is not totally needed but it gives a better finished look. I also took pictures of the minor panel modification you will have to make to make it work...Enjoy....Steve

Yes, although the LX450 panels are different it will work the same in both trucks....

In the LC you will have to remove the factory 5 1/4 subwoofer.....

The pictures look great, I wish that pocket could stay, but even with a 8" driver and a smaller enclosure it would have to go to make room for the amp (unless Blapunkt reserected that nice tiny class T amp).

You are going to get me in serious trouble with my wife. I wanted a new front bumper, but this looks like it will take precedence. How much are you anticipating for the amp and rack? Also, you may want to consider offering the full package with RCA's, Power leads, fuses and instructions to make it easier for most to install, and save having to chase all that stuff down (note I am really thinking of myself, as I am to cheap to pay someone else and frankly have always been disapointed with the work I have paid for).

Great job again, Steve. It's nice to have someone on the board that is an audiophile and can fab up stuff quick for those of us that like to crank it up.

edit: what are the odds on getting a package deal discount on the 6.5" fronts and the 12" sub/enclosure? also, what is the amp and rack going to run?

Jason,

My apologize as I forgot about the "crossover" supliment for the DIY Front speaker thread....I'll do the Supliment in the morning....

As for discounts on purchasing both the Exile sub enclosure and Exile component speakers....I planned on putting together several "package" deals so it can be either bought piece by piece or all together.

As suggested by other members I'm going to include a few options of Exile Ampilfiers, Amp Wire Kits, Connectors and a detailed installation manual for those of you who would like to DIY.

I'll update again after tomorrow's progress, I have decided to continue and do a "ported" enclosure for those of you who want a little more kick in the pants......I have a few other surprises for the forum in regards to the "subwoofer project"....Dont worry I'll take pictures....lol

long duck, i sent you an email asking if you were selling these still... are you?

Colin

I was trying to get one last year. I called the shop and someone said he sold the shop. I sent a PM trying to find out if I could get one, no reply. Someone I know is putting together something similar, and may be selling them. I will post up if he starts selling them.

That's cool. Great work. One of these days I'll get enough PM stuff done and the lift to where I can start focusing on the stereo upgrades. Impressive though. Thanks for sharing those pics!

Dave.

Haha, edit to add I just noticed this thread is old as dirt ;) Well, it looks cool either way.

Amazing project! I just took my 3rd row seats off and noticed that I do not have anything back there other than the ashtray, air vent, and a speaker! Could I still have something like that installed?

Oh, and I was wondering which amp was installed?
