They will fit in the front with some slight axle houseing modification. High pinion use in the rear is not recomended, as the gears are running on the coast side of the teeth and the oiling system is being run in reverse, and not working properly, which will lead to a short life span.

I'm currently running one in the front of my 83, which came from a guy who wasn't aware of the problem with running it in the rear and it failed. Since the only damage was to the ring & pinion gear, it didn't matter since I was regearing and adding an ARB.

In addition to greater strength, the HP improves the front driveshaft angle and helps keep it away from the rocks.

I believe if it's not an e-locker, the diff should drop right in no problem, no mods needed.

Can you install a Detroit Truetrac in one of these high pinions with reverse cut gears and install in the front axle?

Thanks Knixen. Might be worth doing if I run across one before I change my gears and install lockers.

BTW, I have been going to Norway quite a bit lately. I looked up Tronso.....very far north! We have plants on the southern coast near Sweden....still a bit cold for my blood but the weather was nice last week.

I ran the detroit in front of my ifs diff, and It worked great. But since I have done a sas conversion my front will include an arb locker.

Where in Norway have you been? You should check out pirate4x4.no... thats the best norwegian offroad site... If you tell me when you are here, I can check if theres a happening nearby. And yes, Tromsø is very far north.... In the middle of nowhere... But the scenery is great, and everything costs a bunch...
