Hi folks - Hoping maybe the search gurus can direct me to what I can't find. Just drained ATF and swapped the 24mm plug for the hex plug with crush washer. Topping off with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Specifically looking for:

- torque spec on the drain plug
-verify your experience with fill - FSM is saying 5.3-ish quarts

Thanks!

5.3 was what i read for the h55. I just got 2 gals to do both the 5 speed and the t'case.

Torque? just snug it up good. Don't have to worry on the transmission cuz its a cast iron case. On the t'case its aluminum case so be careful not to overtighten or you CAN strip the threads in the housing.

Cool thanks @g-man Just didn't feel I got 5 quarts out of the drain but I wasn't measuring. I'll start with 5 and then check the dipstick.

To do the job right you really need to flush it. I usually end up using 3-4 gallons. There are good write ups here somewhere.

Thanks @php74 I’ll get to the Rodney flush one of these days - for now just the quick drain and fill.

If you carefully measure what drained out (use milk jugs, or marked containers), and simply replace that exact amount, that'll get you very close to the correct level (assuming it was correct before you drained it).

Sorry I wasn't paying attention. Since its and automatic why not look for a deal on a case of ATF. Always better to have too much. Also you can use it in your power steering if it's dextron II or better. One thing I know for sure about auto trans is that they won't go in gear if you are short of fluid. If you start it up after you refill and it doesn't go in gear, get it hot and check the fluids again.

All good @g-man - got plenty of ATF and snugged up the drain plug to about 19lbs. Level looks good cold- just going to drive for a bit to see where it sits hot after adding 5 quarts.

Get it good and hot - not lukewarm. Like 'burn your fingers wiping the dipstick' hot.
