Jebus Cam, the only fawking Toyota content was in the last few posts with that stoner Beno.

You didn't even rent a Toyota. You let The Man tell you what to drive? WTF

This should be on some family blog sh1t website.

It's disappointing, I gotta' say.

But seriously, your boy is definitely from your loins. Heck, he can look in your high school year book to see what he is going to look like in his Senior year, minus the powder blue tux of course.

Your girl, she's a cutie alright, and works it: probably learned from from Mrs. FJ60Cam.

Family vacations are memory makers, absolutely. It is money well spent. Your kids will remember this forever.

Looking forward to the CA episode.

Our next rental car is a Ford Taurus :grinpimp:

Seriously though, I tried to rent a Prius, to keep it Toyota, but the rental agent (rightfully) made fun of me.

Awesome report so far Cam.

It was great to see you and the family and thank you for taking a moment from your awesome trip to say hello to the sandal-wearing, weed-smoking useless parts guy.

:)

way to look in the mirror bro....

So we land in sunny San Jose, where everyone looks super smart and the airport even has talking robots to greet us, and pick up our Toyota Land Cruiser Ford Taurus. Part I of Phase II involves seeing some big ass trees. It is hot as balls in California this particular week (all of the west, really. Even CO), and we need to head for higher ground.

Driving across the Central Valley is kind of like driving across much of MS, only there is even more farming, and the grass is always brown.

We see nonstop signs for fruit & veggies. Avocados start at about 1/12th the price of back home and get cheaper and cheaper the further you drive.

It also gets hotter the further we drive. I don't know how they grow anything in this heat.

Eventually we hit Fresno, and turn toward the mountains, which you can almost see way off in the distance if you are wearing polarized glasses to cut through the haze.

We make our way up to Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park, where it is a good 30 degrees cooler.

We came to see some big ass trees, and that is exactly what we did. First, we stopped in Grant Grove. Our plan was to start at the north end, work our way down the Generals Highway (198) to Three Rivers, where we would hopefully find food to take back north to our AirbNb in Badger.

Ignored again.....

Phase II Part II logistics rendered your plan obsolete.

As I said before, we went through several iterations plans before we ended up with the final version, which also changed on the fly. Phase II Part II only left us with one half day to blast through the big ass trees, so we started at the top and worked our way down.

The first stop was the General Grant Tree.

We followed him up into the mountains to Nederland, where he treated us to beers and lunch at Salto Coffee Works.

This is a really cool coffee/beer/food/bike shop with some bitchin' food. I had some tacos that were out of this world.

Even had a latte for dessert.

He took us up to his house/cabin after. The views off the porch are pretty fuggin' sweet.

After that, we said adios, and took the lower leg of the very scenic Peak to Peak highway to Blackhawk before jumping on 70 to Denver.
that's it..i'm packing this weekend...

So awesome.

I grew-up in Colorado Springs. We lived in a house across the street from Palmer Park...I worked summers at Seven Falls when it was still owned by the Hunt (ketchup/oil) family from Texas and spent many a day in Garden of the Gods. HS Football summer workouts were "sprints" up the ski slope (long gone) above the Broadmoor (which now owns Seven Falls).

For anyone headed there, who LOVES pizza:

Fargos Pizza Company: Peperoni...it's old world, and the best you'll ever eat.

We didn't see any double rainbows this trip. Double Sequoias would have to do.

Then, just as doubles were becoming the norm, out pops a Triple...

I later spot a small Quadquoia, but failed to bring back photo proof.

While the General Grant is quite impressive, the General Sherman is packing some serious wood, and is currently the largest known single-stem organism on earth.

The area around the General Sherman was one of my favorites, and I wish I could have hung out here with a hammock for a day, just soaking in the energy of the place.
