It was about 10 inches. Some guys move the axle back an inch or so, I just left mine in the original position.

Agreed I left mine in the stock location. Mount the springs in the perch and mark where they meet the frame. Work off of there.

You should just have to buy the ruff stuff kit and everything is included. Although mine was missing a couple of 9/16x 5" shackle bolts so make sure you have enough of those. A little welding and half a day or so should do it.

-Yeah? That's awesome. I'm working hard to push through the end of the semester as well and once I'm done with finals, then I'll put a lot more time into the cruiser. I'm using a family member's shop in American Fork. Where do you live?
very cool, i'm staying in the apartments at univ. boulevard and ave. intersection, but i'm from centerville originally. that would be cool to be able to see this rig up front and personal

Yup, planning to leave my axle where it is too. Phil, youre lucky, I have only received 2 of the 3 ruff stuff boxes that were supposed to show up. Fxxxing usps.

-Right on. You have a couple cruisers then? I'll have to come see them sometime. Send me a message if you'd like.

Also sorry everyone for being slow. Two more weeks of school and I'll be able to dive in at full force. I'll be picking up 4.11 diff's, shock hoops, and extra leafs tomorrow from Proffitts. Also should have my axle back sometime this week with a knuckle rebuild kit and new wheel bearings. My hysteer came in the mail the other day too.

I'm really really close to deciding to go with the chevy springs but we'll see. That might just have to come later.

Bummer. Mine showed up in 2 days ready to go. Those guys do good work. I have met the owner a few times and he is a good dude. Can't go wrong with them.

Got the missing box yesterday, all is well. Kind of funny but my shackles wont accept the supplied bolts lol. One end has a larger hole than the other but the supplied shackle mount bolt is the same as the chev eye bolt. No big deal, just gonna drill the holes a bit bigger.

Hijack over...

Good luck w the build nolan.

Hey all, so I've owned a couple of Landcruisers in the past couple of years and I've always wanted to do a spring over. I just purchased this 1984 fj60 and the first thing I've done is tear into the suspension to begin the spring over. I plan on all the following:
-stock springs with add a leaf(Maybe)
-4.11's from a 62
-13 inch shock hoops with Bilstein 5125's
-knuckle rebuild
-35's on black steelies
Right now Kurt from Cruiser outfitters has my front axle and is in the process of cutting and turning it. I spent the last couple of days grinding off all the old mounts and boy did it take a long time!

-Here's my first question; My springs are in pretty good shape, they haven't been flattened like some people's springs-for now should I do an add a leaf? Or will that be too tall. I've been told I can take springs from other stock spring packs and it should be about the same height. Then there is also MAF's add a leafs. Or should I just not worry about that right now. I'd eventually like to get a bull bar and a rear tire carrier. Any insight would be great.

Pictures to come!

I have a sprung over 60 on 35's and it is VERY top heavy. I am considering ways to get it lower because the smallest tilt feels like the thing is going over. I was told buy the previous owner that it used to have add a leafs and I couldnt imagine it being any taller than it is.

Dumb question- I can't ih8mud to accept the pictures I'm trying to upload. I've decreased the size twice now and it still says they're too big. And the smaller they get the more kb's it says I'm exceeding. weird. And the first pictures I uploaded were taken with the exact same camera and I didn't even do anything to them. What should I do?

I host all of my pictures with Picasa. Free, easy online management, free desktop application if you want to go crazy.

Once hosted, use the IMG tags to link an image inline, for example: {IMG}<imageurl>{/IMG} - Replace the '{' with '[' and the '}' with ']'. Finally, replace the '<imageurl>' with the URL of the image you want to post. You get the image url by right clicking on a hosted image and then selecting "Copy image URL' ( if using Google Chrome ).

Boom, done. You can post up to 20 images in a single post IIRC.

See, I find mine to be pretty well planted and not as top heavy as youd think. Its got full width one tons and 40" tires under it and thats what I think makes all the difference. If youre gonna go taller and dont wanna be tippy increase your track width.. My van is 83" tall and oddly enough roughly 83" wide at the front axle.

Thats just cheating right there!!

Actually I don't find mine to be to top heavy, but I also don't have a roof rack, RTT, or pack anything up there when I go camping/wheeling. I would think an SOA with a loaded roof rack would be one hell of a ride and not the good kind!!

Just a week and a half to go

Sorry guys for the continued delay, I'm just pushing through this last week of classes and then I just need to take my finals at the beginning of next week. I pretty much have all the parts I need with the exception of shock hoops and 4.11 diffs. I picked up a bunch of stuff from Kurt the other day including my front axle all cut and turned, AAL's, knuckle rebuild, wheel bearings, u-bolts, and some other random stuff.
I'll keep you posted and hopefully I'll get the whole picture thing figured out.

Thanks again Nolan, excited to see some pics

Found a set of 3in wheel spacers. Can't wait to see what it feels like with some width!

3" wheel spacers? I wouldn't put those in the front... thats just too much leverage...

Sorry for the wait everyone. I'm back to working on the Cruiser. This last week I've got my spring packs all cleaned up, painted, with AAl's installed. They're back on the truck and now I'm working on getting my spring perches welded on. That should be a party, trying to get the perch that sort of sits on the diff cut just right while sitting where it needs to to get the caster angle right on. I'll work on getting some pic's posted.
