Fj55 windshield replacment

I posted this in the general 40/55 section but - Does anyone have recommendations for windshield services for the fj55? my front windsheild leaks like a strainer and needs a new gasket. The windshield wont survive removal. will places like Safelite replace these? I got a quote from safelite but IDK if I trust that its accurate. Like If I drop it off will it actually get done. Even better if you are in eastern NC and have a recommendation that would be much appreciated.

to further my question is it best left to a professional? I have a 50% success rate with installing windshields and that was with a flat fj40 glass. I failed on my suzuki samurai... IDK on that though. I think the aftermarket frame was too tight. Worth the risk? I have seen the few threads on the 55 windshields and places to get them at least.

Local is over 5 hours away. I am pretty remote. I live on an island off the coast of NC and have to a ferry ride thats 2.5 hours long to get to the mainland. Thats why i am entertaining doing it myself again. its Easier said than done to go and take it to a pro. Like I have said I have done flat glass on the fj40.

that being said.... Id rather have somebody do it. the issue I have is I really want to pull it and clean up the frame but then I have no windshield to drive it. tI would have to take a ferry, rent a trailer, get back on the ferry. load the car, get back on the ferry.... you see where I am getting at.

I am getting ahead of myself a little too. I am going to call around and see. If I can find a good place in new bern NC I can take it there and spend the night with my in laws.

I just did mine when I installed my headliner. It really isn't that bad of a job.
I bought a new gasket from Cruiser Corp and used the old glass.

I did the rope method, the glass seemed stronger than the 40 windshields I have done. The flex is what will get you, the curve in it helps that out.
It was me,, my wife and a lot of patience got the job done.
You can do it!
