FJ55 door hinge bushings...any interest?

:frown: See what happens when you don't tune in for a long time. I would be in for a set. What about the tailgate as well? Bushings on the hinges back there. I may be able to pull some if it has not been done.

I'll buy a set as well, thanks.

Are these being made or are we just sizing up interest?

I finally got a hinge last week, so I am moving forward with these.

I have some questions first and I know very little about 55's. The hinge I received does not have the spring on it. If I use it to copy the bushings, will it suffice for both upper and lower hinges? I've seen hinges with springs on them and I don't know what the difference is. I guess I need to be schooled on 55 hinges. Who can do that?

Here's what I have...

That is an upper hinge.

The lower hinges have springs.

I believe the bushings would be the same, but I am not certain of this...

This is exactly the info I need. I want to start this week on these.

Are you starting on the bushings, or are you starting to repair the hinges themselves?

Starting on the bushings, but honestly I am not 100% sure the bushings will work. Based on some PM's I've had with people, the hinge pin ID varies based on wear. If I make one size bushing, it may not be big enough to fill in a very worn pin opening.

I agree. Sell the FJ55 kit with a drill bit to open the hole up to a prescribed ID before pressing in bushings. Two benefits:

Makes hole much closer to round, and allows increased wall thickness of bushing to allow a bit more strength when pressing in.

Follow up with another drill bit to "ream to size"
