Jason, thanks for the info; will have to hold off rechroming till I get the emblems.......have been looking for them; another qustion....how did you solve the problem of rear tailight gaskets; I recall early on you were looking for some but never read about how you solved that problem; mine are both missing :(

Jason, Help! how did you solve the lack of tail light lens gaskets

Lou

Sorry guys. I have not been checking in as much since the Pig went away.

Lens gaskets;

I went to the hardware store and got some camper shell tape. It is about 1 inch wide, single side adhesive, gray. I took the bulb housing, and sort of pieced together a gasket. I sandwiched the bulb assembly, as it seemed to be how the original molded ones fit. With the tape being an inch wide, I was able to fold it over the edges to create the sandwich. The tape is soft enough to squeeze and find the holes for screws, or (as I found on the second one), use the lens to fit over it, press down, and it leaves impressions in the foam you can use to guide you in cutting the holes. Use a very sharp razor blade, or it tears easily. I tried to bend the corners, but it would buckle, and I figured it would not seal, so I cut and pieced it around the corners. I tried to fit them tightly at the seams, and with the compression, should seal out the elements. This is colorado however, and dry rot is more prevalent than rain. If I was worried about water more, a little non hardening gasket adhesive would set the pieces together.

When I get the Pig over to fix a couple little things, I will pull one of the tail lights, and take pics. Hope this helps.

Awsome Jason...:cheers:you have tons of practical experience....there is nothing written about these sort of small details except for this group..........unless one has the support of this group it would be beyond my ability to solve so many of these smaller but important problems!:beer:owe you again big time!

Anytime. If anyone wants help/advice/answers/pictures, feel free to email me. If you think I should publicly post for all to see, I would be happy to post it. I will get back to you a lot quicker, as I have moved on to a new project, and don't check this forum daily.

Congrats on a job incredibly done! Definately the best looking restos on a FJ55 that I've ever seen! Sure glad you're in CO....I'll have some questions for you for sure!!

Looking forward to following the Ford project too!

well, its been about a year. The factory carb finally got irratating enough that we bought a weber conversion for it. It seems to be running much better that with the old smog carb. I got it tuned in by feel, and checked all over the forum for timing/tuning advice. Problem is, no one is running a 78 2f, desmogged, full tube header, stock block and cam, weber conversion at 5280 ft.

I think I might take it down to a Hot Rod shop and have them stick it on a dyno, and do a proper tune. If I do, I will definately get pictures. When was the last time you saw a 2f motored Pig on a dyno? Should be a sight.

sorry man, the carb is going into storage with the rest of the smog equipment. Just in case.

Smart thinking! I just wanted to make sure it doesn't get thrown away.

If you can't get that weber dialed in, send the aisin off to Jim C, ask him to build it for your current level off smog equipment. I predict you'll do better with that than the weber...

Fantastic restoration!

Do you have any recent pics? How's it holding up? Did the bumpers get built?

Following your wagon build too.I always liked those two door models. If it turns out anything like the 55 you'll have a sweet ride.

:cheers:
