What have some of you fellow 45 owners done for seat belts when its time to take the top off? I have shoulder style seat belts and each side has bolt attached to the upper corners of the hard top. Are there lap belts available to easily switch to when the top is off?

Probably more than you want to do, but I will be moving my shoulder anchors to the roll cage for exactly that reason.

seat belts? hell in my 66 I want to be able to jump out the way of the old harpoon steering colume :D

I was kinda wondering about the whole seatbelt issue... so i guess this question is mainly for the members from Texas.... besides having the normal stuff working..ie lights, horn, windshield wipers.... are we required in Texas to have full shoulder seatbelts? The reason i asked... this past weekend i met a guy from Dallas who had this super nice restored early 70's bronco and i noticed he didnt have an inspection sticker on his windshield. When i asked him about it, he said that "Antique" vehicles, like his, are not required to be inspected. Nor did he have shoulder belt... just a lap belt.

Any idea's what the Texas rules are?

in WA if it didnt have them when sold new.....ya dont need to install them, if they have them....you can toss them or use them

pickups are exempt I think even longer

Reviving an old thread..
Anyone else have any newer ideas? LIke a single hoop behind the seats to attach the shoulder section to? I understand it's tight but most smallish convertibles have at least a hoop with something attached when the tops down. I really don't want a cage, just a shoulder belt. Could easily run a roll cage lower mount thru the floor beside the rear body mount inside the boxed in channel.. Thoughts? Ideas? Bueller?

I know you like the old bench seat look, but how about finding a newer style seat from the old pick and pull that integrates the shoulder belt, then have the seat redone with the correct color/material?

I finally added some shoulder belts to my cage this weekend. This is a '65 and up until now, I'd been using the OEM lap belts.

Driving around in the summer, with no top and no doors and just the lap belts doesn't feel very secure.

There is a 3/16" plate welded to the top of that section. If I were to do it again, I'd bolt it, but I wasn't around when the cage was built.

It's also welded to the body where I've circled in blue...again, if I could do it again, I'd make it bolt-in. that would require some machined fittings ($$$) though.

I have no regard for my family or other motorists though...

You got that right! :D

I was just ribbing you in that other thread BTW (this one too) thought you would have got that.

These will go in my '63 FJ40, a horribly unsafe original vehicle with single circuit drum brakes, a harpoon steering column, and lap belts. I have no regard for my family or other motorists though...

Dang...been looking for a set like that for the 40...did you get them with the '63?

I just pulled a roll cage from my 64 swb. It is similar to Owyhee Jackass but is bolted in. It has a setup for a long bench seat on it (Durango). I will not be using it. Appears to be a good cage. trade for?????
