Sorry for your issues. Looks like an ok rig. You need more pic's: underside, motor.... More details what: winch, motor...

No clue for value, have you looked at the forum classifieds for sale, Bring A Trailer might have search history for past sales.

You could list it as make offer and see what people will bid

What @charliemeyer007 said.

A lot of 40 buyers are looking for a more stock rig, but there must be some out there who would be OK with the auto tranny and etc. You're not going to have as many sales of rigs similar to yours to compare with to get a value though. I wouldn't know what to say for value, because of the auto tranny and etc., sorry. Good luck with the sale, and all best wishes for your wife's health.

I’m certainly no expert but do follow 40’s on bring a trailer pretty closely; there’s definitely a market for your resto-modded 40 there, but sometimes BaT crowd really values some small things, like matching door color. Like they really want a turn key piece of it’s going to fetch a premium. The BaT crowd can judge what some of us here might easily overlook as an easy fix very harshly.
The market is definitely down now, do not sell it no reserve or you risk some serious heartbreak, imo.

Also wishing you the best with your wife’s diagnosis.

@nickg7 Did you just recently buy this rig from someone in the high desert? I feel like I recognize the rig from the FB marketplace listing, the white body parts and sliding hardtop windows are familiar.

Sorry to hear about your wife :(

The body appears to be solid. Original paint?
The winch cable is painted. Looks fresh. All flat black. Little things like that and the bezel upside down are clues that can seriously devalue a thing.

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade of course.

ETA the ford truck mirrors while very practical are not your friend in an auction.

It's the best kind.. one that you can just use and not worry about keeping perfect, or oem minutia. Search the California area Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for a few weeks and you should get a good feel, It's apparent when there overpriced if you keep an eye out. Bring a trailer etc is more geared to trailer queens and not your market. my 2 cents.

The color and patina look good and would be a plus, but the rear cut fenders will be an issue for a lot of folks. Assuming it has a well kept SBC 350 i would expect to see it listed for 15k obo compared to others here on mud. Just my opinion so take it for what it is. You are facing a slow market at the moment but that could change in a year or so hopefully. Hope your wife recovers 🙏

If its the same truck that was for sale recently locally, it was listed for sale for quite a while, starting at 25k and i last saw it around 15 or 16. It appears some work has been done to tidy it up, and new seats or at least seat covers?

The market has softened quite a bit, but well sorted 40’s are still selling. I would start at your purchase price, and maybe add 50% of parts price purchased and see where that gets you. It looks like a nice 40, love the patina on the blue. Would be a perfect truck for someone looking to use it off road and not concerned about the mis matched colors.

Excellent advice given so far... If it runs and drives nicely, 15K is a starting point. While I'm a 'stock' guy, that truck doesn't offend. Clean all the windows, flip the bezel, and make it sparkle for potential buyers.

Thanks for all of your replies. Sorry that I’m new to all of this as far a bezel etc. I know there is some rear corner rust and things like that. The patina paint isn’t for everyone but I personally like it. For sure there is work to be done but a good set of bones if that makes sense. I guess I’d like to get 16 but am realistic with the situation I’m in. Thanks again.

Bonus points for a clean undercarriage! Everything else can be changed or painted but a good frame is essential. I would list it at whatever you feel comfortable with for a price in the fj40 for sale section here on Mud and on Facebook marketplace. See where it goes but you dont have to give it away. Good luck with the sale!

List it at $16k on FB marketplace and Offer Up and drop it $500 a week until it sells if you want to try and maximize return but get rid of it semi-quick. The things you have working against you, coming from a 40 series enthusiast that browses the market daily in our locale:

- cut up dash
- fabricated & unfinished rear drop down tail gate
- non overdrive auto trans
- that old Belleview or early warn winch isn't as attractive as the 8274 successor or any other modern winch for that matter.
- mis matching body panels.
- what I assume are cut rear wheel wells with the round jeep flares

It does look to have good bones, that rust in the rear corners/sill wouldn't bother me. The non-matching hard top and doors may have some decent value in them for someone looking for a match for their 40 that is missing those bits, but probably not a path you want to pursue with the situation you're in.

Thanks for your thoughts and everything. I appreciate it
