FJ40 theft

I think you guys in high theft areas need to move to Indiana. I leave my doors unlocked and half the time my keys in the car outside. This winter I left my snowmobiles sit outside by the shop. No trouble what so ever.

That could be because I have a cane corso mastiff and a nice little sign in my yard.

Same thing I was thinking, sometimes I wander around looking for the keys to my 40, only to find them still in the ignition from the last time I drove it! (Back when it was running!)

I just renewed my policy with them yesterday. I've had it a year and been happy with it, haven't had to use it yet though...knock on wood never will. I'd be interested to hear what someone that dealt with them filling a claim had to say. I like you declared a value higher than mine was worth but also not out of the ballpark. I tried to get it where I could get a replacement of the same quality.

Though I think I remember the vehicle must be inside a garage or storage unit for their insurance.

they are really good about paying claims, but will not renew you if you do.

Strategically placed this could be a viable option.

I like that!!!!!!!!!!

You do know there are laws against concealed traps?

that said, that would be fun to set off to see what it does

There are laws on stealing a mans FJ40 as well!

Seems in the past someone put a extra hazard switch? next to the choke and wired it to ground out the switch at the starter when it was activated. When they went to start they just pulled it out I think. I always thought that would be something I actually use and not be slack about.

if your truck is one of the years that came with the ignition fuse just pop it out... very easy... and quick

works for me these past 26+ years.... hasnt been able to stop stupid.... keyed three times and broken into twice :meh:

Wow lots of great answers here.

Curious about the GPS system that was mentioned to notify you on the phone. Are you referring to the Viper system?

Seems like a car Cover plus the GPS would be a good idea. Car Cover for protection and parts and GPS for theft.

Thanks guys!:beer::beer::beer:

Also how do I find fj40 owners near me?

Oh yeah kill switch sounds good too. Saw that in a guys seemed like an easy thing but also seemed like if the thief just hit a bunch of buttons they'd eventually find that one

SPOT will notify you however you wish. Phone, text, email, carrier pigeon (okay, maybe not the last one)... it's interesting to go onto the SPOT website and see where your vehicle has gone...

That spot looks great if it is as good as it says. Gonna go check that out this weekend. Will check the Viper out as well.

@PixelWrangler nice! What part? Curious to meet some other 40 owners in the area you in that socal club or other?

I'm close to downtown LB, no club affiliations. I work too damn much!

Ok on a related note. How's about insurance to cover theft?

I spoke with state Farm on adding the truck as multi car. Will be $40/mo more ($370/6mo just for fj40 - more than my dd) for liability/comprehensive/theft insured to $9k.. No collision

I read somewhere else on here someone was getting all that plus collision/rental/uninsured driver/insured for $15k for just $170 every 6 months.. Is this due to living in California?

...nothing is theft-proof, but two of my favorites are...

I make a point to stay away from high crime areas(...cities...with people in them...) but the times that I've had my 40 in a bad area, I've popped the rotor button out of the distributor and put it in my pocket. I've got an early 40, so it doesn't require any tools to remove the distributor cap.

Another one of my favorites is to switch the coil wire with one of the spark plug wires. At first glance, nothing appears out of the ordinary(no missing wires) and then thing cranks, fires but doesn't start, cranks, fires and doesn't start...it's also a good one to prank your friends with.

Neither of these stop thieves that have trailers, tractor beams etc. If somebody really wants it, they are going to get it.

Yeah, if someone wants to steal something and they are professional, not much is going to stop them. Some show a few years back showed ex-professional thieves showing how quick they could break into a home and take stuff. The homeowner watched as the thieves broke in, found hidden stuff really fast and were gone. Was mind blowing.

You just insure yourself well to guard against the aholes in this life. I have mine currently insured for $43K through Hagerty. Way more than I paid. Sent them pics and they cover it for declared value. Put it costs me. Insuring a 77 FJ40 and a 73 Ford Bronco. I would HATE to lose either of mine, but at least won't be out anything other than the loss of something I love. They stay locked up at home when I'm not driving either. If they come around my house and I am home and catch them....well, I pity them. If they steal from me and I find them, I also pity them.
