IFS boxes have rear facing pitman arm (reverse turn), no?
That won't work on a 40, as far as I know.
Push-pull minitruck is the simplest conversion, by far. The only mods required on a '74 are the steering pedestal and a mount for the pump.
As far as I know Stump is correct on all accounts.

Okay. I'm gonna read up on it. Think it would be good for my application?
If you are running 33s and not planning to go to 35s or bigger in the near future, the minitruck box will suit your needs.

I've literally spent hours obsessing, I mean "researching", power steering today. We've seen in this thread and many others the most popular options in no particular order... mini truck, saginaw, FJ60 from IPOR, EPS. All have various pro's/con's. I am really leaning to the EPS from @Racer65 posted above, mostly for the bolt on to stock easy install. Since this will not be a DIY project for me, I think that while the kit is more expensive upfront, I think I will save in labor for welding/fab/install. Hopefully that assumption is correct.

I'm still looking for more feedback from any local Keystone guys on City Racer's Electric Power Steering setup in off road scenarios with 33" tires. Anyone?

I did an engine swap on an FJ40 with the electric steering and during the test drive it worked fine. That was maybe two years ago. Other than that I have no input other than to say that City Racer has a pretty good reputation in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Here is some progress I have made using the ipor 60 series kit on @Rob Gilfillan 40

And the pump loosely mounted up. There was a slight mix up with the pulley and I must say Iron Pig off roads customer service was outstanding and would highly recommend them.

I have lots more to do, and will update later with more pics. It’s not often I get jobs like this but having had both Rob and @fireball trust me with their rigs has been nothing shy of a great experience. It really is awesome when work and hobby come together.

I never saw the plate mounted to the inside of the frame rail...

It came as part of the kit. Cut out a bit of the frame and weld it in. I wish I took more pics of it, but welded it in, ground it all smooth and painted. There is also a pic of the bearing that goes on the steering shaft. You are supposed to tack the bearing to the base plate of the steering shaft. I wasn’t particularly fond of that idea so I made a plate and drilled holes in it. Tacked the bearing to that and ran longer bolts through it to make a more robust mounting point.

LOL! I totally forgot how I mounted the IPOR plate... I mounted it from the inside as well, but I also added a plate to the outside of the frame to space the box away from the radiator and add some strength.

I did the same conversion on my FJ40: FJ60 Power Steering Install into a 1981 (and newer) FJ40
