Great pic to have. He just has the cool factor. If there was an FJ40 style back then he was it!

This is Italy pure (of that era): a Fiat Campagnola on the left (with "double toit tropical", like in the Series LR) and a Soviet UAZ-469 on the right, probably equipped with a VM Turbo Diesel (2.400cc) for the Italian market.
It seems that the BJ40s were omnipresent at the Off-Road events on the peninsula...

This was the 71 I bought for the ex, that I posted earlier, before she crashed it. It was near perfect. I paid $1,700 for it in 1984. No rust, no dents, 3 speed on the column, bench seat, vacuum operated transfer case. Everything worked. The used car lot marked it down because he couldn’t get the electrical to charge. He replaced the battery, VR & alternator but the green light on the dash still wouldn’t turn off. I said I’ll take it as is, took it out of 4WD, the green light turned off, and I drove it home.

Writing on back of picture, something you did in the old days with real pictures, shows April 1988. Dad and Mom came to visit from Florida. Chilling in the back yard watching no one finish my fence. Purchased the ‘82 the year before. Still have, but with a color change.
