FJ40 4-link up front SOA in the rear

Still have to gusset the brackets and modify a few minor things. Later today or tomorrow we are going to cycle through some flexes and see if anything will bind on us. Here are a few pics of the links. Will post the flex pics once we know there isn't any binding. The PVC pipe represents the drive shaft.

Pushed her out of the barn, first time since late December. My brother used the skid steer to lift the driver's side tire, I am pleased with the way everything turned out, no binding or rubbing of anything, yet. Here are some pics, I'm going to bed.

Just picked up my rear disc brakes for the 14 bolt. Going to put those on tonight. I also ordered a Dana 60 pinion flange to Toyota driveshaft. I'll have to fab something up for the 14 bolt. I need air shocks and an orbital valve. There are a bunch of little things yet to do. Should be wheeling by the end of June, if all goes well.:beer:
 
Not much progress on the 40 since that last time I posted, however made some nice purchases, I have an orbital valve coming, I have a new D60 to Toyota drive shaft pinion flange, new front brake calipers, 2" wheel spacers so I won't have to grind much off the calipers to fit the 15" wheels. Still left, is: Steering wheel, brake lines, front rotors (either new or machine my old ones if I can find one of them, the barn might have ate it), air shocks for the front, bump stops for front and rear, rear shocks (thinking something cheap for now, monroe), drive shafts extended, 14 bolt pinion flange fab to fit toy driveshaft, gusset all of my brackets, and exhaust. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. :clap::beer:
 
:bang: I have to put the project on hold until the cash starts to flow again. All that is left is air shocks, full hydro steering, exhaust, custom chromoly axle shaft, and drive shafts. I'll get all the little items out of the way, like hubs getting greased, running brake lines, hooking up the electric fan, adding bump stops, and other little things. Time and money never have enough of both.
 
Sitting at ride height, maybe an inch or two high. Here is a cool piece Matthew Camp made for me, the rear pinion flange for my 14 bolt. This way I can use Toyota drive shafts. He machined the piece and then I had to drill holes and tap the threads in it. I had the easy part. Nice work Matthew. Looking forward to putting it to the test! :cheers:

The flange was blank when I received it. I drilled two patterns, the FJ40 pattern and the Toyota mini truck pattern. I have both types of drive shafts as my brother is a Toyota mini truck guy and I also drilled the mini truck pattern in my rear transfer case flange. This way drive shafts are easier to find and cheaper.

Before I get anyone's hopes up, let me check with my buddy who loans his shop and tools to me. High Angle Driveline makes these new for $200 each. I made my own because I didn't have cash to spare on a toy. John's project is more urgent than mine, so I gave him the only one I've ever done, and guessed at for that matter. I'll get back with this sometime next week.
 
Back to the build. Put the hard top along with the hard doors and windshield into storage.
MC Designs Off-road QUIK HINGE was so nice, went from hard doors to tube doors in seconds.
Prepping for brake lines I was thinking might as well get a new master brake cylinder. Seeing as how I have 4-new disc brakes on all four corners, might as well run everything new so there are no problems, or at least cut down on any that should come up. Also I hope to have the traction bar made and installed, start on the hydraulic steering. I used permatex on the front and rear diff covers, will be filling with fluids today, hope they don't leak. Might even pack the hubs with grease this evening. Everything is coming together, the big things left are the exhaust$$$, shocks$$, and steering$.
