thats great, congrats Chicago... I ran the 8000s but found I had too much sway.. My solution was stiffer shocks which is not the correct solution, add another leaf or possibly some sway bars and run the softer shocks you have now... I got great handling with the Pro Comp 9000s around the corners but could feel every bump. Rode like a Cadillac with the DT 8000s even over bumps and ruts. Which again I recommend, personally...

I have it on good authority that Chicago will have his shocks installed very soon. VERY soon. :bounce:

DONE!!!!:bounce: :bounce2: :bounce2: :bounce:
Yeup, Rusty TLC was right...Got the shocks mounted and this BEOTCH is basically a done deal.
Im not 100% happy with how the front shocks mounted, but they work and they clear in all directions.
The biggest problem was the steer box. I had to set the tower back about 1/4 of an inch. As a result, I had to cock the shock a bit to make it work. The other problem was how the brake line mounts at the distal ends of the housing...It doesnt leave a whole lot of room for a place to set your lower tabs.
Took the rig out on some trail and flexed it out, put it in 4wd and the whole bit to make sure things werent rubbing or binding where they shouldnt be, and everything seems GGREAT!
With shocks on it rode WAAAYY better than it ever did SUA. I took it down some graded road and got up to about 45 and she was stable as ever and glided over the wash
I did get into a "TRUE" side hill where both front and rear were side ways, and I really did feel pretty un-easy about that. That is gonna take some getting used to.
There is one lil hill out here with some wash out and smaller boulders, that I had NEVER been able to get up before, and she WALKED up it today like it was not even an obstacle!
the only thing left to do, is get a x member fabbed and whip up a trac bar and Im ready for a RUN!!!!
WHO"S UP FOR IT!?

A couple of pics of the shocks on and mounted, and the steer stabilizer...I didnt get any wheeling pics, cuz frankly I was just too excited to get out and actually USE my rig!
I hope you all understand!

Thanks Dieselcruiserhead!
Ive got the long AAL already, and I believe that is why it felt so stable even without shocks on.
The verdict is still out as to wether or not I want to re locate the rear upper shock pins...I have noticed that the up travel is a bit stiffeling, which could be remedied by either extending the bump stops, or moving the pins in! Ill see how she feels!

Thanks alot for all your advice over the "back channel" It really helped!

Hey Rusty...
I felt like such a HEEL asking for that angle grinder back so soon!
Im really sorry about that!:o
I had F'd up one of my tabs after I had tacked it in, so I had to grind the tack down in order to keep going...
I had nothing I could use otherwise!
Lemme know when you want to use it again, and its yours!

I felt bad that I had it when you needed it. Worst thing I didn't have mine because I loaned it out.

I'm just glad you could get it back and finish up.

The rig is looking good!

Sorry to hijack but since you are talking about shocks for the last 2 pages could someone tell me how to know the pin size of the shock? because I'm ordering some OME's and the guy told me that he needs to know if the pin size is 19mm or other size (my 60 is 82').

Thanks. Andres

Awesome job Chicago. It's sick nasty.
I think I read somewhere you have 15x10 Black Rockcrawler Wheels 2.5 inch Backspacing. Love the look of them. Where did you order them from? and what price did you get. Sorry for all the questions. This is a longggg thread.

Hey Klinetime,
I know, this is a pretty long thread!
Yes, theyre 15x10 rock crawlers with 2.5 in BS, 35x12.5 BFG MT's.
I got them from 4wheelparts mounted, balanced, center caps, new lugs, shipped and literally off loaded into my garage for 996.00 AND I got em in 3 days. IMO it was a SCREAMIN deal.
I would recommend that you call them and ask for a package deal on rims and tires. Originally, I wanted the D spoke rims, but the rims I got were cheaper.
Im really pleased with how the stance came out with this set up!
Over all it feels REALLY stable on the road, and (from what I can tell) OFF ROAD as well.

Hope this helps

I put the Ford towers up front, so I now have an eye bolt set up both front and rear. For the upper front bolt, It was a 7/16 x 2.5. The Lower bolt was a 1/2 in x 2.5
The rear...I really cant help you with. I used the stock upper pin and the lower pin I used Sky mfg's weld on mount.
I think that your front tower will be a "vertical" pin sort of thing...Right?
That is how the OEM was on mine.

Sorry I couldnt be of more assistance.

Andres,
You might wanna post that question in its own individual thread.
You might get a more informed response that way!

Tell him to look it up in the Old Man Emu application guide ;) :D

The front shocks are the same for 80-90 60 Series...

Rears were 16mm from 80- ~85 & 19mm from ~85-90

cool. Those are beefy rear spring packs, heavy duty.. Look aftermarket, did I miss that you had aftermarket springs before somehow? Anyway, if you want less lift, you get slight load carrying loss (not much though) but you can remove 1-2, maybe even 3 of the smallest leafs. For each one there you get 1/4" of lift... Anyway, looks killer and super beefy.. Can't wait to see pics of it on the trail.. !

Its kinda funny how now that it is lifted so much, the 35 look like 33's cuz theres so much room up into the wheel wells.
Thanks DCH...
I think Im gonna run it as it is for now and see what I wanna change and what I dont.
Hiking that LSPV up really made a difference in my braking!
It actually stops BETTERl than when it was SUA with 32's!
Go figure!

Hi Chicago, Nicely done!

I am looking at front shock mounting options. You have one picture of the Ford towers. It looks like you had to cut some of the fender out, or is that something else? Why are the Ford towers the ones to have? It sounds like they were PITA? How much taller are they?

Did you order your rear shock mounts direct from the maker?

Thanks for the thread!
