Come on down for the Fri morning soccer mom run if ya want. It is a quick (probably 4 hrs) trip to the springs. And you can get a feel for what is available in your backyard...

It is funny, when I lived in Reno I never hit the con. Had to move 9 hrs away before I drove it ;)

The first time I ran the con it was in my 40, locked front and rear with a SM420 and xtreme 32" BFG at's.. I walked the trail.. it is only as hard as you make it...

Do you think I would do serious carnage if I am unlocked and stock birfs in the front?

Ya I know the rig is capable but I don't know if I am capable. I would hate the thought of getting on the trailand holding everyone up and learning as I go. The 'con would be by far the most technical terrain I would face. I have been thinkin that a passenger seat to 'see' the trail first would be the best.

Unlocked in the front means your stock birfs are not a problem..

If it is a major concern to you then come on the fri morning trip down Cadillac with me.. It is an easier run and will get you used to doing things a bit out of hte ordinary..

EVERYONE is learning as they go.. The con is not an overly tough trail. It is a beautiful trail tho.. and the party Sat night at the springs is a lot of fun.. Good people and free alcohol :D

The Fri run is designed to give people a taste of the trail. If you like it, you will be back next year :D

Come on guys-I'll be leading the wagon run on Wednesday of Rubithon. This will be the don't miss trip of a lifetime. I have seen Rubicon done in a wagon with only a rear locker. Dual lockers are better, but you gotta run what you have. I would not attempt the trail with no lockers at all in a wagon.

Do not be intimidated by the trail. With the Nor Cal Wagons, you will get through, though your sheet metal could be rearranged a bit. It will be worth it.

In many ways, Chicago will have a leg up on CaliCruiser. The automatic is much more Rubicon friendly and forgiving, then stock FJ60 gearing without gear reduction.

Mace-If you need help with the soccer mom run down Cadillac on Friday, I can probably help out.

There are two breakfast runs this year I think. Ross leads the traditional breakfast run and I have previously always gone with him and his crew at Rubithon. He's a good guy and an excellent leader. Tony Twiddy asked me to lead a run for wagons on Wednesday-it will also be a breakfast run and we'll hit the trail just behind Ross. Goal is Buck Island.

As a wagon run, there will be no gonzo craziness, and a tug or a winch will not be a badge of dishonor. I am hoping for no major breakage in my group, just steady progress.

I agree 100%. I remember the first time me and my buddies ran it in 1994. I had the "biggest" rig. We were all driving Wranglers. I had a 2.5 inch lift and 32's. Two others had 2.5" lifts with 31's and the last jeep had just a shackle lift and 31's. I think I had a Lockright in the rear axle, the others had factory limited slips. We all made it through with no breakage and no straps. None of us had ever been before.

It's gotten a little rougher over the years. But, if you are careful, you shouldn't have any problems.

Hope you are feeling better Keith, the crud that has been going around is nasty. Good luck on the sinous infection, I had one a couple of years ago and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

The Rubicon is one of those trails that Id love to do...if for nothing else, just to say that I did it.
Im kind of on the same page with Dylan, in that, it would be my FIRST time and I could just imagine ME gettting hung up with a LINE of pissed off cruiser heads behind me, MAD, cuz I have no business being there!
I know everyone has to learn sometime...
Ill see what the work schedule is like. The Friday run does sound very tempting, if I cant make the rest of it!

In my experience it would take more than hanging your rig up to piss of most Cruiser folks.

I was a chicken, I made sure I did a couple of ride alongs before commiting to the trail. I'm glad I did even though it wasn't really necessary.

:idea: You look like you could stack rocks pretty good. You shouldn't have trouble finding an open seat. :lol:
