JDM for sure ff, same era fj80s were not.

Double bling, rear disc brakes and internal ebrake.

I'll check for sure. Does the rear axle have the same center section as the old land cruiser axles? The 45 has a full float rear and discs on the front but i have been thinking about swapping the rear axle into the rear of my BJ40. 73FJ I will let you know what i decide to do. But I do have another toyota full float axle with drums so if your interested I will inform you first on which one i decide to keep.

Holy well engine is not a direct bolt in to the motor mounts... too bad guess I have to do a little fabricating. ;) Here are some pics. You can see where the original engine mounts put the 1HD-T and it is to far ahead.

Now you can see where the engine has to sit so I am going to have to fab up some engine mounts but I want to get the cab sitting on the frame to make sure I have everything just right. So I better get some metal to fix the rust under the rear cab mounts so I can get it back on.

Well I got the engine and tranny set about where I want it now I have to start making mounts. With the whole drivetrain being roughly 76 inches long you would be hard pressed to put it into a 40 series. Front driveshaft is going to be roughly 40 inches long and the rear driveshaft is only going to be about 36 inches long. Its going to be a tight fit but it is going to work just fine.

Good stuff John. I think I found something to put that FF axle under, 52 Willys wagon.

What happened to putting it under your cruiser? haha. I just wish that my Cruisers were closer so I could really get things done.

Well, Santa dropped the Willys off and it's gonna need new axles and I think LC axles will work just about perfect. It's still in the back of my truck awaiting a new home :p

Sweet that is going to be a nice little project. Wish Santa would drop stuff like that off for me haha.

Well took a while to get everything lined up. Got one engine mount cut out still have a bunch of welding to do on it. I will have to make the other mount today. It's only -18 degree celsius so we will see how much I get done in the cold. Might have to start up the propane heater haha. Pics will be up later.

Well it was but cold, but I got the mounts just about finished. I need to box in a few areas and bead blast them but for now these will have to do. Here are the pics of everything lined up.

Here are my mounts. Still need to box a couple areas but it gives you an idea. I love the plasma cutter.

Okay got the mounts finished. Welded inside and outside of the boxes and then all edges cleaned up with a grinder. They are made out of 3/16 steel. I brought them back with me so I can bead blast them at work and then weld them to the frame and prime and pain them. They turned out good. I cut the boxes at an angle to the frame contour so that it is not sandwhiched in between the frame.

Very cool, . It is a great upgrade.

That is a very common engine in Australia and very reliable. Just remember to change the timing belt religiously every 60 000 mile !!

That engine in Australia has been replace now with a 4500 litre intercooled twin turbo V8 diesel.

Not sure how much one would cost but that would be an aweome engine conversion

Keep up the great thread !
