Valve seating is important to vac. Something could be going wrong when it heats up. Crud on sealing surface should be blown free by the compression. Any heat expanded burr might be knocked off/down by the impact.

Spray testing everything while acting up might produce different results than when everything is cold.
I was there as the valve train as a possibility when the old engine was in, but now this is a brand new entire 2F build that is exhibiting the exact same issue as the old 120k mile tiredish 2F.

Different Head, different engine, all new components but same old intake manifold and header, nothing else was carried over.

The Sniper, Dist, is also brand new and we have the exact same initial issue.

The same exact thing happening across 2 motors, 2 distributors and 3 snipers but only one intake.

No one is whacking anything………… yet

I forgot this fun yesterday. I must have done this somehow. There were zip ties. I must have missed.

Luckily I had a new sniper in a box for a personal project coming up.

Have to send it to Holley. $250 **** up.

Sorry this one has been such a challenge!

At pick up or delivery, you can eat and drink like a King, my treat!

Got home from delivery duty about 11:30 and got busy about noon.

Added some FIPG and a new gasket and sealed up the thermo housing.

Then I ripped into the intake swap. After I got it off I inspected it everywhere and could not see a crack. My heart sank.

But I pressed on.

And boom

Can’t believe it.

Went and crawled around a bit.

60 rear axle 1” back. Looks like without these cool little bars it would tuck in and not
Hit the uncut fenders. It hits the bar but it’s fully flexed and a round tube won’t hurt the tire so I recommend he leaves it

Engine is tidy once again

I was about 30 minutes into my test drive and the LCD went black and the truck died.

I had power to the starter so it was not a Fusable link.

I found the pink wire and removed it from
The fuse box and put it direct to the positive battery and it fired right up

I’m going to clean up some wires tomorrow.

One of my great fears is being stuck out on the road….any road. It sends a shock thru my body and a huge sinking feeling. Glad you’ve got the best teeth in the south… and, a small gauge wire 😉

I was hoping to get some road time today but it decided to kick me in the nuts instead.

I fired it up and readjusted the timing after I rewired a few things.

Could barely see the BB so I stopped and drew out the line with a silver sharpie.

I adjusted the IAC and it was humming along nicely when I happened to look under the truck and there was a growing puddle of oil.

I s*** myself then gathered my wits and started looking. Did not take long until I realized the timing cover was leaking.

Fearing the worst, I was not trusting the stock gauge which was pegged so I drove to Harbor Freight for an oil pressure gauge to make sure I did not have an overpressure situation
Nope. Pressure is perfect.

The oil looked like it was coming from behind the plate so I was fearing the worst case scenario

I moved enough stuff that allowed me to pull all of the bolts along the leaking side. These are the tricky ones and two need to be the teeny tiny short ones or they bottom out and don’t compress the gasket
IMG_8885.webp

Seems he used some generic stainless bolts and cut down the ones that need to be super short here in this spot. He just did not cut them enough. I had some here from Overland Metric that did the job.

All dry under the Patty40
Now.

$4.94 a gallon today. Diesel is $5.49. Regular $4.09

I just got back from 10 days off. Washington State and Idaho. 2000 mostly off road miles. Recharged my batteries and after lunch, dove back into the Patty 40

Thursday July 23rd I put it up, leak free but my test drive left a lot to be desired. It was nothing major but it was not tuned right.

Got home. Checked timing and got the IAC right and took it out. Still pretty weak. Drove to town. Filled it with 93 so I can push the timing.

Pushed timing. Still not what I wanted.

Pulled the plugs and gapped them at .040 and it came alive.

The DUI likes a gap.

These high compression 2Fs like some timing.

Settled at 16* with no diesel and no ping (that my deaf ass can hear)

Gonna change the break in oil out for new oil tomorrow and I’ll call this one done
