I tried searching for a thread on this subject to see what it would take to fit 35x12.5 tires on a BJ74. so if anyone knows how big of a lift and what company makes a good kit.

yep, but only go 1", 2" causes the 2 cross rods to interfer with each other...
2 1/2" lift kit, extended shackles, relocation of axle 1" forward and you are golden...

i am running 36" tractor tires on this setup...
 
I have a BJ70 and recently went through this. I ended up turning my springs around, and redrilling the spring perch. The spring pin is not centered so by turning them around I got 45mm plus I redrilled the perch and got another 50mm. Thats 95mm in total and by doing this the steering arms do not touch. Where'as one came up behind the other, now it comes up infront of the other.

Works beautifully. Plus the ride is better now as the diff is closer to the shackle end and the wheelbase is 4 inches longer and I also get a little more travel.

2 " raised leaves. I need longer leaves though as the shackles are vertical.

Next year in Jan I am going to get some long leaves and reweld the preches to suit. I may try and use the rear leaves out of a 78 series as they are the right width plus are extra long for articulation. I hope to spring it over at the same time, using 60 series diffs and run positive offset rims to reduce the tyres sticking out of the gaurds so far, with the wider diffs.

I have done 35" on 70's and 74's 74 series with Belton as well as Bobinsons suspensions. You will need to relocate the center pin or turn around the springs with the 2.5" lift from either, and depending on year you might have problem with front steering. Here are a few phots of them:

How do you blokes go with diff ratios and larger tyres? I'm wanting to fit simex JT's to my ride in either 33''(actual 34'') or 34'' (actual 34.8") to my middy but I dont want to alter my diff ratios. I currently have 33'' (actuall 32.8'') to my middy and thats fine with the stock driveline (carby 3F, H55F and 4.11 diffs) Normally use L2nd unless stupid steep and use L1st but i'd like a little extra height. I'm from victoria (australia) too so I dont do rock crawling, mainly high country stuff.

Hey I'm from Oz I have 35's on my BJ70 above and ran them fine with a 3b-II but have recently fitted Marks reduction gears wich have a 55% recuction in low and 8% in high to help with the bigger tyres and the combination is awesome. For high country work the reduction in low is the best mod Ive done bar lockers. Pretty exy though.

I usually get a lot of nay sayers on what I run, but it works for me for every 7x series diesel cruiser I have so that is what I stick to. If you are running a diesel you can go with a higher gear than a gasser. on the 7x series If I have 3B w/turbo 13B-T or 1HZ I will run all the way up to 35" tires on 4.11 gears. When I have run lower gears (4.88's) the gearing is all wrong for wheeling, too low for my taste.

I would say in conclusion if you are doing a lot of off roading and not much hiway drivingor even some hiway driving then 4.11 with 35" for the diesels. If you do some wheeling and a lot of driving on the hiway then you can even go with 3.70 with 35" (as long as you have a turbo on for a little extra muscle).

I would not be fitting JT's to my landcruiser had them they have a reputation off ripping of the lugs in Boulders as the lugs are made of a stiffer compound rubber. I have seen them rip in heavy boulder areas.

They are not as good as the CENTIPEDES which i have a set of 35" on by 13B-T powered LJ70.

Side slip and grip is more impressive with the XT the JT will let you down in this area.

LOng life the JT will win but I want grip and saftey had some bad experiences with JT's in the Malaysian Jungle.
 
Body Lift

Can you run 35's with a body lift (and OME springs) only?
